Applicator kings typically don’t come out the best on their own, they’re ok at first but not in the long run, and if you’re wanting your moneys worth of actual good applicators then you’re looking at a high amount of GB

Mutation replacing is one of the best ways to get a “perfect” king. You can search through normal lions that already have desirable markings like rosettes, BO and so on. Whatever you may be interested in. Then once you found a king with great markings you can king them, find a piebald with preferably a short clean generation, king them and keep the appearance of your previous king. Now you have a mutated king with desirable markings. This can be expensive though. 35 GB to just replace twice in the same day. If you don’t have GB this may not be the best option for you at this second and that’s alright!

There’s still plenty of ways to get a nice king, you can search for a piebald on the market that you generally like and you can find some nice ones for under 10 GB. I don’t recommend studding for pies, no matter how nice the king is most times it’s cheaper to buy a pie outright instead of spending on studding unless you’re particularly lucky. And almost always the nice markings, like rosette, won’t even pass.

There is no exact rule of what apps you need to get or markings that should be present etc because creating a king is an individual experience that usually takes a long time before you’re fully satisfied. I’ve spent hundreds of GBS before I was OK with my king. While others may have spent 15 GB and have the king of their dreams.

Okay, I poured some research into this since I have litterlly nothing better to do.
Bases!
Any of the locust apps are cheap since you can craft them now.
Dust: Red ruby ~ 19-25
Dust: Kunzite ~ 29-45
Scent of Protea ~ 22-40
Scent of Fuchisa ~ 35-40
Blood moon body ~ 25-30
Bloodbourne (Bloodbourne infection) ~ 15-30
Cherry blossom (Cherry lips)~ 30000-35
Curse of divine ~ 5900-19
Nacre (Nacre lining) ~ 6-20
Sutekh (Vestage of Seth) ~20-30
I suggest try to get curse of divine or Nacre as they're pretty cheap apps. Its a little harder to breed these bases though.

Whatever stud doesn't matter as long as its pie, has nice markings and a special base. You could give them items to increase the chance of pie. If you get a female pie you can sex change it. A tip is to sex change as a cub. Its easier. Unless you want to mut rep the king.
