The number of marking options isnt so daunting when you realize most of those markings arent actually accessible to you for various reasons. Some have to be bred for, some can only be gained from applicators that can only be gotten certain months of the year

Here's one idea I have for him if he were my king:

One easy way to improve a starter male is to use a lab test frog and use a pose applicator on him. I personally think the neutral pose would suit him, but others are also nice, its entirely up to your taste.
Dark Brown Half, Under White 8, Under Golden 5, Classic Half Front, and Brown Chest don't really add anything nice to your lion and just muddy up his looks and cover his pretty markings. You can leave them, but I would get rid of them. And also honestly I'm not a fan of unholy brindle either personally.
I would add a brimstone marking to slot 1, a blood moon marking to slot 2, a demonic marking to slot 3, all layering nicely under your feralis white marking and making it pop more visually. I would add a Windfall marking to slot 5 or 6. Then I'd replace slot 9 with a shard marking. Then I would also get the set of flame accent decors for him, to highlight his red fiery colors. Depending on your luck with the applicators, his pattern may not turn out exactly like this, as its random which exact marking you'll get, but all the options for these marks should be pretty.
These applicators are all from the past 2 months of events so they shouldnt be too expensive, but you would have to buy/trade them from other players. Unfortunately december's markings dont really suit his current looks very well, but you could trade december applicators for the ones you want. But also, dont expect to completely transform him overnight, it will take time and be an ongoing project as you collect more sb and gb to put towards it.

Heres another idea:

I delete all the same markings as before, and lab test frog and pose him, but with an evil pose instead.
This time all additional markings can be gained from the January event, so next month if you complete the event, you could achieve this hypothetically without having to spend anything.
Lycaon Heavy inverted would go in slot 5 so that it covers Feralis White, you can choose any of the colors but I like gold or resin the best. Lycaon Heavy Noctis would go right over it in slot 6. Then I would either get rid of blue paw spotting and put White Hyena Unders in slot 9, and Proteles Scarce/Heavy White in slot 10, or I would put them in slot 11 and 12 instead so they cover up the Blue Paw Spotting, but you'd have to buy the two slots.
Additionally with this, you can put pretty markings that might not match him underneath the lycaon markings without having them clash, since they wont be visible, but they will pass to cubs giving you prettier cubs. I also threw an Augur Hood [Calamity] on him since I think that also suits his dark eyes
