Me and a member of my clan, The Beetle Breeder Club, surmised that the reason most people don't bother with the Battle Beetle system is that there are not a lot of things to do with them.

1. The Exp. they get for winning isn't much no matter how many times they've been battling
2. The amount of SB you win also never changes
3. other than to just continue to feed your beetles there's not a lot of use for the shaman herbs.

We thought that perhaps more things could be added to make people more interested in using the Battle Beetle system.
Such as beetle crafted applicators or special decor that you can only get through battling.?
Maybe rarer beetles can win you more extreme prizes?
Having more rewards for taking the time to raise and keep going with the beetles might make more people want to use them.

We in the club love our beetles! We just think that they're underappreciated because they don't do too much in the long run.

I would LOVE it if there was more of a use for beetles. I love my battle beetles, but the prizes are meh and the fact that cub training is free while beetle training costs 10sb despite beetles doing less than lions is a little ...weird? If they expended more on beetles and made the 10sb worth the training, I feel people would have a much bigger interest.

Possible workarounds the training system could be pretty easy.
we could keep the same basic system BUT rather than make it for individual skills it goes towards exp in order to level up and increase the skills randomly like it does your lions.

fully agreed. i'm in the clan and i love beetles but i feel like outside dedicated beetle breeding groups nobody actually uses these. probably because one of 3 reasons

1. the rewards are not worthwhile
so i've been battling beetles for a while and it seems like the rewards you can get are either not useful or too small to do anything. it's always 10sb, a small amount of exp, or an herb.
- 10sb is too little to do absolutely anything. i don't expect a big 99999sb reward but this is so little that it makes no difference whatsoever and doesn't feel like a real prize.
- the exp is so little that on any decently leveled lion it won't even get you 1% on your level bar. i'm not hardcore on leveling so it's not like i'm just so high of a level! come on! people who are more hardcore on stats are definitely higher level than i am. it's just not a real reward for anything.
- the only use for herbs really is feeding your beetles. and even then just by exploring you'll likely find enough herbs to feed them anyway. at the end of the day, it's essentially a garbage item.
the only reward i really look forward to is when i get a beetle slot, which i think is actually a good reward! i get excited getting a beetle slot as a reward for battling!

2. there's absolutely no support for beetles anywhere
lions get a search feature, a leaderboard, studding, reverse breeding, and mutations. beetles? you can have one of like, 5 colors. some are rarer than others. you can stat them up but besides battling you can't stud them out or reverse breed so you can make sb/gb off your hard work in stats. no leaderboard, you can't even see who the highest stat beetle is. there's no incentive to breeding better beetles unless you like battling beetles and getting the lousy rewards from point #1.
- there should be some sort of leaderboard so higher achieving players can really go for the stats
- studding, reverse breeding, and a search feature. unless you have a rare beetle already, there's no way to breed into one without actually buying a rare beetle. why not just breed to someone else's rare beetle?
- possibly breeding & stat items just like lions have? items that give them an extra stat or guarantee more larvae in their next litter or reduce cooldowns
the game itself has so few features for beetles that it discourages everything and players will gravitate to much more fleshed out features like the lions

3. the existing features for them are underwhelming
beetle training costs 10sb unlike cub training which is free, and cub training has a much much higher success rate than beetle training. most of the time, beetle training will fail, meaning you are basically throwing your sb into nothing.
- at least give the beetle training a higher success rate. the fact that 90% of the time the beetles are going to fail makes the beetle training grounds feature feel useless.
beetles have like 4-5 colors total, and it's hard to breed into higher tiers. most lions who breed higher tier rarity cubs do so because of reverse breeding or studding. both those features are nonexistent in beetles, and even though beetles are said to have a "small chance to mutate their color" that chance is small and the chance that the mutation makes their base rarer is even smaller. it's the kiman/mandarin base situation all over again, there will be no demand to breed for a base that is such a low chance that there's no plausible way to breed them without losing time and money for something that will probably sell for less than you put in.
- studding and reverse breeding for beetles would fix this super easily! in my clan at least, people can offer their beetles for breeding where they send a male beetle to breed with someone else's female and then the other person sends it back, but this shouldn't be the only option. unless you're in a trustworthy beetle group, you obviously wouldn't do this because there's so many places in that transaction where you could get scammed. risking scams shouldn't be the only way to breed into rarer colors, seriously.

i breed beetles because i like bugs. if i didn't love the idea of bugs so much, i would have abandoned this feature entirely like most players do. the feature makes you unable to breed rarer beetles - and then motivates you not to. and in the end of the day, yes, this is a side feature. lions are and will always be the main focus of the game. but if they're going to add a feature, they should at least make sure that the time they spent coding it was worth it. because at the moment, beetles are broken and few people use them. at least make the side feature something worth using. because right now for most players the beetle battling feature is just a decoration image of 2 beetles on their explore screen.

Oh, I love beetles! You know what I'd also love? INTERACTIONS. Like, pride interactions happen when you go to a lion's page randomly, I'd love them to happen for beetles too!! Maybe something like uhhh
''When you went to visit [Beetle] today, he seemed very angry. Oh no wait... he's just eager to battle. Nice!''
Or ''You almost had a panic attack when you lost [Larvae] today. They had to be fed! They won't survive out on their own! Oh... You found them back with [Cub] (note; this would be very cute with cubs, but you'd have to have a cub to have it happen) playing. Upon approaching, you find out they've already been fed today and now [Cub] is staring at the little wriggling thing with an obsessive glare in their eyes. Seems you're not the only beetle lover here!''
Just stuff like that :) Actually might make a post about that later!!

I love this idea! I have a few shells of beetles that can't be crafted into anything so it'd be great to have more craftable beetle items and/or better battle prizes as an incentive.

It would also be nice if you could get the dried beetle if you really need to kill the beetle or need space. It's a big annoying to have to wait until the beetle dies at 31 especially if you don't have a lot of space for your newer beetles. I know there's the option to let them go but the point is that sometimes you're using the beetles for the dried version and need them for a reason. So not having any other option than wait can be a bit irritating.

Imagine you could make beetle markings like beetle shell markings. I can imagine an orchid mantis marking that looks like petals or flowers on the shoulders

Definitely Support

It's sad that we wont get other pets, I think it was a missed opportunity to do reptiles instead of beetles (may have been more popular with the variety), but overall I've been enjoying my beetling.

I am currently working on statting, to see just how far I can push it. I am reliably getting ~22 stats on average per birth, but so far my highest has been 25 stats.

Honestly, the beetle training costing sb isnt a huge deal to me, but it seems to have such a low chance to work (unless I'm somehow missing something!) that it does seem like a waste. (Except for me having to utilize it every day for that extra potential stat).

I will say, the wiki could use a bit of an update. Specifically about how the stats even pass properly, I've been trying to find some correlation, but from what I can tell stat passes are purely based on RNG + high stat parents. Idk what "bonus from the parents stats" means lol

Anyway,
Definitely think beetles need to be expanded upon and more info about them on the wiki would be wonderful :)

I would be so into beetle battling if you could get exclusive decors or apps.

Some ideas:
Every 50 Wins: Random Beetle Decor
These would be decors which look like beetle horns, wings, leg armor, extra legs and feelers.
They could come in a variety of easy recolours.

Every 100 Wins: Random Applicator
These applicators would look like beetle skins.
For example:

Maybe you could get a components through battling, too, that used exclusively a combination of dead beetles and components from battling to make some cool marking applicators.

Even better: Make these shapes and marking colours completely exclusive to the beetle apps.
Some ideas for markings:
Striations: Faded gradient striations that bleed down the shoulders and hips, and only partially come down the sides.
In the following colours - Squash (Shown); Monochrome (3-Tone Gradient of Black/Gray); Copper (3-Tone metallic gradient); Cicada (Orange-to-Black Gradient Fade)

Casing / Shed: A darker, smokey blanket on the back, with points of lighter colour.
In the following colours - Forest (shown); Monochrome (3-Tone Gradient Black/Gray blanket with white spots); Cicada (Black to dusky brown-black blanket with orange spots); Lustre (White-to-Gold gradient blanket with vibrant flecks of pearly gold tinged with blue/pink).

There should be an exclusive Reward for collecting each rarity of a type of beetle a rare applicator or a decor with like 20 uses. You could choose which reward you get. So dedicated breeders get a reward for their dedication. Imagine you collected each rarity of an event beetle or such.

Example: Ladybug Spots applicator or Ladybug armor decor

I came up with ideas for more things that could be crafted with beetles and some event beetles.

_Bases_
Jewel beetle crafted - Emerald Base
Ladybug crafted - Ladybird Base
(whatever the new halloween beetle is) - Candy Corn Base
Man o' War crafted - Surge

_Markings_
Orchid mantis crafted = Hana Markings - Points, Boquet, Feild, Horizon

_Decor_
Silver scarab - Chitin Chainmail
Gold scarab - Chitin Crown
Lightning bug - Tail Lantern

_Combo Bases_
Ladybird x Candy Corn = Maize
Emerald x Rose Gold/Black Rose/ Cinnibar = Polished Ruby ( or Garnet)
Surge x Trophy/Gilded/Deshret = Glory
