Try to close off the widest path of escape first (but focus on where the zebra is going. One well-placed first move can make it so that the zebra only approaches holes that can be closed with one lioness), I.E. any gap that requires more than 1 lioness to block off. Remember, your main goal is to close the zebra off from the edges, so you're basically playing connect the dots with the base obstacles to create a closed polygon. From there, the zebra can't escape, so just close it in.
Also, this game is the same as mousetrap, so maybe try looking mouse trap tips online.

If you see the zebra going for something at the end that you can close off in one move and it's not right there let it go and try to use that to close off other routes while its distracted

There is a certain pattern the zebra follows. I haven't actually figured out the pattern precisely enough to guess where it goes with 100% accuracy yet but after a while, you are somewhat able to predict where the zebra goes most of the time. I would suggest practicing a lot and seeing where the zebra goes depending on where you place your lions, the nearest exit, obstacles in the way, etc

And if you get on a more open level just put a lion on one of the edge spots and adapt from there that helped me

they seem to almost always try and go for the biggest available exit (KEY WORD ALMOST THIS IS NO GUARANTEE) it also helps to if you can, make a circle with your environments and slowly close in (this got me to AT LEAST lvl.10
