Hola,

I really, REALLY want to make Lioden custom decor, because I have a lot of ideas that I haven't been able to find anywhere else. However... I'm not sure others would find interest in what I make. I'd put the prices really low, because I only want to make back at least as much as it costs me to buy the custom decor rock LOL. 10GB is steep for a poor little fella like me.

So I guess I'm just curious if most custom decor artists make a decent amount of sb/gb back from their uploaded designs? I'm also not greatly social, or good at advertising my art, so it feels daunting to put myself out there, despite the fact that I am very confident in my art and capable of imitating Lioden artwork/style.

Thank you to anyone who can pump me up, or give some advice!

to be a custom decor artist you really have to have the detail down in order to get accepted, so if youre confident in that field just make something you like and think others would enjoy aswell!

I will note that CD sales are “taxed” and 3gb are automatically deducted from each sale, so if your price is 7 gb youre getting 4. This is also mentioned when uploading :D

I've created a handful of custom decors over the years, and do not advertise them at all. X) The ones that I've created entirely by myself have netted just over 1600GB over time. I also have one collaboration decor (a friend and I made it years ago, I still send them half the proceeds on that one), and two that I purchased the rights to from the original artists, which all three have made a decent profit over time as well - although I don't remember what I paid for the two so I couldn't say for certain what they ended up actually making?

Anyway, if your idea is something that is marketable at all, or even just visually interesting, people will most likely buy it every so often.

My self-created best seller is Piebald Eyeball: Left, and my most profitable self-created decor is a recolor of one of my others, Tigon Silk Wrap: Charcoal, which I liked a lot but didn't expect to sell nearly as well as it has.

So your mileage may vary, but you'll likely make your 10gb back over a bit of time, if your decor can reasonably fit with many people's interests or styles.

@Tree Holy COW!!! 3gb tax? That seems insanely high, but I guess it's just because I'm poor, LOL. I am super detail oriented, so it's good to know that as long as I stick to my usual guns I should be good to go!

@Angela it's great to know that advertising isn't super necessary. I honestly have never bought a custom decor, myself, so I don't know what's already out there, or how to effectively look for them, HAHA
I guess I'm not in any hurry to get back the 10GB, I just really love makin' art, and I pump out art really quickly too, so I wanna make sure I always have enough GB in the bank to publish decor regularly!

taking commissions could also be another form of profit, especially if you make them supply the 10gb custom decor creator themselves :D
if you get rights to their decor (assuming its public) thats additional passive income for any future sales. i cannot create my own CDs, but ive commissioned 2 and soon to be 3 already!

That's really smart, thanks for the idea!
I guess I'll start by saving up for my first custom decor on my own, and use it as a 'portfolio' type for commissions. I wanna make sure people can see what I do before I make em commit to buying the CD creator for me LOL
