Whack A Snake Guide

Whack A Snake can be one of the most frustrating minigames on Lioden, but it also has a ton of great rewards available. Here are some tips and tricks to help you get high scores every day with minimal pain!

The Tips

1. Use a touchscreen.
As mentioned on the wiki, because you can generally tap things with your finger with more precision and speed than with a mouse, using something with a touchscreen, like a phone or a tablet, is a big advantage in Whack A Snake.

2. Don't tap immediately when the snake/monkey pops up.
Take your time! The faster you whack one of the animals, the faster that animal pops up next time, so rushing to whack as soon as something pops up will just increase the pace at which you have to tap in the future.

3. Space out the animals.
As mentioned, in Tip 2, the time at which you whack an animal affects the time at which that animal reappears. If you whack immediately every time, you're likely to end up with the two animals popping up almost at the same time each time they appear. If that happens, you'll always end up rushing to whack both of them; and if the first one's in an awkward position and you spend too long trying to whack it, you'll to run out of time to whack the second one.

In order to avoid that as much as possible, when an animal appears in a position where it's easy to hit (ie. not behind an obstacle), you can pause for a moment before whacking it--though not so long that the animal leaves again. Pay attention to how far apart the animals pop up next time, and try to space them out so that their appearances alternate, and there's an equal amount of time (about 1 second) between each animal appearance. Eventually, you'll get a feel for how long you need to pause in order to keep them apart like that. Try to get a rhythm, so you know when to expect the next animal to appear.

4. Have the sound on.
Since the animals can disappear on their own, sometimes it's hard to know if you hit them. Fortunately, the snake and monkey both make a sound when you hit them. If you keep the sound on, you'll know you can stop whacking something as soon as you hit it so you can move on to the next animal. You also won't think that you hit an animal when you actually didn't.

5. Don't psyche yourself out.
If you miss one or struggle to hit one, it's easy to get distracted and lose your rhythm, which tends to lead to a quick defeat. Don't let that happen--just focus on whacking the next animal, spacing them out appropriately, and re-establishing your rhythm as soon as possible.

6. Be patient but strategic.
Unavoidably, playing the game is going to take a while. With about a second between each whack, getting a score of 500 will take over 8 minutes and a score of 1000 will take over 16. In addition, getting any kind of specific reward could take a while, especially one from the decor pool. Only play if you think the reward is worth it.

In order to save time, if you think you're losing, I suggest that you quit and start again. Specifically, when you're halfway to your target score, you should only continue if you have at least 6 lives left. Why 6? You can lose up to 8 total lives before reaching your target, so if you've lost just 3 at the halfway point (ie. you have 6 left) you're in good shape to continue. 5 is likely not sufficient since because of reversion to the mean, you're unlikely to do as well in the second half as you did in the first one if you don't have a good win rate already. Once you get better (maybe ~40%+ win rate), it's fine with to continue with 4 or 5 lives left.

Those are my tips. I hope you find them helpful and get all the Whack A Snake prizes your heart desires!
