I've always kind of thought the "no unsolicited" DMs rule was kind of silly. I get that it's likely there to deter players for harassing one another, but I feel like the rule as it is currently written it too broad.

The way that the rule is written allows me to say, report someone for wishing me a happy birthday or report a newbie for asking me a question or report someone for sending me a funny meme.

So, to somewhat what fix this problem I propose a feature on Dens customizable by adding something that users could toggle on and off to give other users a guide on what kind of communication is ok with them.

It's not pretty, but you get the idea. Many users are perfectly fine with DM related sales, but don't have this indicated anywhere. That, couple with the above rules, stymies potential trades. I get you can just toss up a thread or a trade and hope for the best, but if you're looking for a rare slot that has less than 50 lions you're kinda screwed lmao. I dunno, I just don't see the wisdom in having a rule everyone, Admins included, is going to break at some point.

Thanks for reading!

Im neutral on this; I kind of dont see the point of adding a specific toggle when you can just, put a note in your Den description noting the very same thing? And it will serve the exact same purpose? The notes would anyway have to start disabled by default - because people not wanting certain kinds of PMs will need to be protected from the start, not have to sift through spam to learn how to change them - so unless the user specifically changes these toggled - you wont be allowed to PM them anyway, just the same as until they put a note down their Den description. SO in the end, it wont change anything. If the person doesnt care to put their permission in Den notes, they likely wont care to change their settings either, and you will be in the same situation again.

Lots of people don't do that though. With an official UI system announced by a News Post, it would prompt people to make adjustments as needed.

It's just a question of whether it would be introduced as "opt in" or "opt out". I vote opt in from the start because I don't really see the point of DMs if it's use is so heavily restricted that staff themselves are breaking the rules. At the end of the day, it's not like users don't have tools to block other users they don't want to talk to. You say "protect", but it's not like people are DMing other people viruses or anything.

I've had yellow paws in the past, for instance, ask me about Clean Breeding unprompted. Technically, that was breaking the rules.

Hi there!

To clarify, 1.5 does not refer to all messages that are sent unsolicited, but specifically offers, advertisements, trade inquiries, etc. Players are more than welcome to send birthday wishes, or any other messages that are either casual in nature or questions, provided they are not sent to multiple users.

We just wanted to post some clarification to avoid misinformation is all.

Bases off what I was recently told by the mod team, there is a distinction between normal DMs and sales related DMs. And both were prohibited.

Still I think an interface about sales related SMs would be useful
