So this is nothing big buT IT BOTHERED ME. Okay so I recently got my first look at the Siamese marking. First of, ee! Siamese marking! I've got two "mutts"(so to speak) who both look like gorgeous Siamese in coloration(one of them is probably one of the prettiest cats you'll ever see yes I am a proud mama) and I've had two other Siamese in my life so I get a bit excited every time I so much as hear the word. So Siamese, on the site? Huzzah!

But...

But...

The markings of a Siamese are referred to, to paraphrase, a coloration of the cats "points." This is toes, tail, ears, and nose. Toes. So imagine my surprise when I see the first Siamese marking'd lioness I have yet to see and...the toes are blank. I suppose it looks cute? But...the nose is blank too. And...I don't understand, frankly. Was there a misunderstanding? Was a snowshoe referenced? What happened? Where is the rich depth of the tips, the smooth gradient, the--the Siamese!

I'm not even going to post a picture for reference--simply go to google images and type in "Siamese." Not a single blank toe. In fact, the toes are the darkest part of the marking. It would overlap with other marking then? Well then play with opacities a bit! Add delicate little spotting along the gradients, add a stain on the shoulder blade, lighten the marking for further down on the forelimbs. And on a similar note, markings taking note from the lynx point siamese, which could be a completely remarkable and unique marking combining the traits of favorite with some uniqueness of its own, with the forelimb, tail and facial stripes, mixed with an elegant almost brindling along the hindquarters. And of course a secondary marking for the lynx point's brilliant highlights. Combine searches for lynx point with searches for "snowshoe" and you'll find some very lovely possibilities indeed, none of which are more unrealistic than the lion(esse)s we've already got on the site.

And since I've gone off topic anyway I'll mention the potential that could be found in looking at "flame point" and "red" siamese. Not to mention the outstanding markings of a lynx, or a snow leopard, and not even touching on the possibilities of mutt cats who come out with such spectacular markings as you wouldn't believe!

But that is all mostly food for thought--ultimately, I'd just like accurate, or at least not so blatantly inaccurate, representation of a Siamese marking.

I apologize if this has come off too harshly or critically. I understand this is really a minor thing. But I thought I might bring it to attention anyway. Thank you for your time.

They could change the name to "pseudo-siamese" and release a new one called "color point" that actually looks like a real color point/ siamese cat.

Agree, it is not very realistic. Though it is probably too late to change it now.

That pattern does happen if a Pointed cat also has the White Spotting gene in the form of a tuxedo pattern, but then the tux marks would be white.

I think Colorpoint should be a Mutation[it is a form of albinism], if it is released seperately. Because then they can be done properly, with the cub being all white, and the marks being a transparent white overlay, and blue eyes etc.

I'd like the Siamese markings better if the muzzle has the color too, like it should. I don't mind the toes so much.

Changing the name sounds great, Zizi! That's something I actually didn't think of, which makes me feel like a dork.

Colorpoint or even just points, since it would have "black points" "dark brown points" etc as a name, would be a great name for it. I disagree that it should be a mutation though. It really screams of marking, for one thing. And I've never heard of it being a form of albinism, so I can't comment there. It's interesting to know my lynx point's got white toes because she has the "white spotting" gene, though. Makes sense, considering she is...white spotted.

Meowen--the toes are kinda cute, the inaccuracy of calling it Siamese still bothers me. It's more like...toeless stockings. Plus tail and like, a cap. A hat of coloration.

In any case, thank you for everyone's support so far, especially the suggestions! It's great to work together for everyone's happiness.

I agree with this soooo much! It was my instant first thought when I saw the marking with the name. I see a siamese more in the smudge markings than this one.

I have a seal, lilac, and a flame point. I used to have a lynx point. It's safe to say I adore the breed and color. I was a little upset when I saw that the face marking is back so far and doesn't cover the nose. I often joke about how my baby girl, Nikki, looks like she doesn't have a nose because it blends in with her dark face.

So whether it's a name change or an adjustment to the mark, I think with how it is right now, it's a tiny bit inaccurate :c

I can agree with this too. I don't think of them as proper Meezerkittehs, and I was already plotting combining them with Onyx Face or some such to get a better result. How about if someone makes a custom decor for this kind of marking? I'm sure it would sell really well. Same with lynx, ocelot, tiger, etc.

SandTiger- I don't think markings are allowed to be made into decor. Otherwise I'd say heck yes xD Though from the decor perspective, we don't have access to the shading and lines files for lioden's bases, so custom decor markings would have very poor quality.

Well, in actual colorpointed cats, the white is the marking, not the dark parts. The dark parts are the genetic color progressively darkening out from the white masking due to body temperature [the colder the parts, the more color they develop]

that's why older siamese cats also have a darker body color, and why babies are all white [they are warm everywhere inside the womb]

Though, the marking itself should still stay, but if actual colorpoint was made, it would work better as a mutation with a white overlay that partially masks out the real color and markings, like the real genetics do.
Because it being a mutation could justify the cub being all white but the adults having the actual point markings.

I agree with you. With the toes, the LioDen marking "Siamese" is more like a Snowshoe's markings than a Siamese. Throw an under white or undercover over it and you've pretty much got one XD From someone who actually owned a Siamese(not to mention my uncles used to own two show cats of the breed), with the toes not being colored, it really doesn't look like a Siamese, a breed a love and enjoy breeding lion look-a-likes- of.

You can make a more realistic Siamese without the new Siamese mark though(believe me, I've had such lions).

Changing the name would probably be best.

I myself have no problem how the Siamese looks like. This is how Xylax sees the siamese, This is our Lioden Siamese lol

Well, I of course shall not stand in the way of those who it is truly bothering. However, I feel I should point out, that people have been asking a name change for Brown, Black, and Dark Brown, and the idea was rejected due to needing to delete a lot of things for just a name change.

I think it is too late to ask for one now.

I don't think siamese anything in lions is realistic anyway. There was a demand for something in this spirit so I made one. I did NOT want to make it look like real cat-siamese due to fact these are lions.

I would definitely like to see marks like the ones mentioned in this post and comments! I prefer renaming the current siamese and adding in the other markings myself,
though Xylax himself stated he doesn't want to completely base his markings off of real feline ones.

Color point would be a great addition, and having it as a mutation would be more realistic, but there would be a loss with new, unique marking combinations if it were that! Perhaps there could be a similar marking and then the mutation itself, or a spinoff of it of some sort, if I'm making any sense?
