As Sub-Queen... Mao had to nurse the poor, grief-struck Anang, when the love of his life, Mother Bakoba, passed away in her sleep. She'd always been a firm, even harsh kind of Sub-Queen, with her tendency to get snarky with the young of the Pride... but she was FAIR too. Mostly.

Nevertheless, she too was aging... she counted herself lucky to have provided so many high-ranked females to the Pride, and to have trained many more. She was a solid leader of almost every hunt, and she had the respect of her peers- but Anang wasn't really /himself/ when he too, passed away... and Mao didn't last much longer, herself.

Long enough to meet... and ACCEPT... that crazy-strange young male who the Lionesses crowned King... Khavi was a corkscrew of a young lion, but he had such a good heart and he was VERY strong. She didn't feel bad for the Pride she was leaving, when the hunt she was on went all wrong, and she ended up under the hooves of the herd- she knew, as she rolled, that she would not survive it- and she had to convince Khavi not to try and drag her to 'help'... she had lived a VERY long life, and she had but one 'command'... choose a Queen. choose a /Sub-Queen/. Prides do better when they know who's in charge, silly boy... now get on with it.
