Over the years, their numbers dwindled until Sandstorm was the last of her family line with powers. Sandstorm's mother assigned her to watch over Seth, while her younger sister, Bastetta, was instructed to guard Bast. Their mother disappeared soon after giving birth to the cub that become Anubis's guardian. When Topahn attempted to awaken Seth, Sandstorm apprehended him. After telling her his dreams of Shai, the God of fate, Sandstorm reluctantly allowed him to reawaken the God. When she heard that Topahn had powers, she resolved to join his pride to breed another protector of the Gods. She too had powers, though they had been diluted through generations of her ancestors breeding to mortals. All she could do was summon howling winds. In the desert where she resided, this could create fierce sandstorms under the right conditions. Topahn's blood could make her line strong once more. Her first few children had been duds. That was the only way to explain it. Though they were pretty, they lacked the strong blood from their parents. One of them could create a kind of static cling when irritated, but that was not uncommon among Topahn's children. Finally, a cub was produced that had potential.
