Father's Flame

Beneath the cobblestone streets
Buried six hundred years ago,
Lies a cursed house of God,
Charred by the fervid fist of His foe.

Long ago, a single creature crawled from the grave,
Pristine – As if untouched by the blackening flame.
She ran from the tomb of blistered corpses,
Believing that she was to blame.

The featherless wings of fear carried her away
From the smoldering streets of paradise.
Underneath a new sun, she discovered virgin hope –
Only the dawn of God’s sacrifice.

Sunken beneath Heaven’s tender touch,
Infernal cascades erupted from a riven heart,
And Death cultivated bloodstained roses
To soothe the wound of lovers eternally apart.

Quenched by anguish – her flame faltered –
She cast herself to sea.
Among drowned ships and stygian stars,
She marinated in her misery.

Below the waves of time –
A dead ember in the deep –
Merged with the ocean’s skeleton –
Forever lost to sleep.
