Boa had always been drawn to the spiritual realm, often visiting it in their sleep. When they were introduced to shamanic practice, they knew their calling, the ancestors had chosen them.

Rig, Boa's serval companion, was found snuggled up to Boa the day of their birth. Rig seemed to only have been born a couple of hours before, just like Boa. No one really knows how he got there, but the prides best guess was Rig's mother must have snuck in the nursery somehow while Khione was sleeping and abandoned him.
Khione took pity on the young serval and begged Altaire to let her nurse him until they figured out what to do. Altaire agreed, no way they were gonna agrue with a moody nursing lioness!
Boa and Rig grew very close and became inseparable. Once, Altaire tried to take Rig to the den the den of a mother serval, hoping that that would give him a better chance at survival, but before they could get half way of of the nursery with Rig, Bao started screaming and Rig started thrashing around in Altaire's grip. After that, the pride decided to accept him as a part of their pride.
