Kilele means “peak”, Kuona’s youngest is named for her white pelt, like the snowy peak of a mountain.
Wait a second…wasn't Kuona’s first cub a girl and the second a boy? Or was it the other way around? Kuona doesn’t give a straight answer. Newborns are tough to gender, she says. She assures everyone that her cubs are as they should be. Oddly, Kuishi agrees with her.
Kilele grows into a rather singular beauty, with a pure white pelt and striking eyes. Though she is not a princess, she is rather revered by the non-lion residents of the Kalahari lands. They call her the ‘diamond of the Kalahari’ and see her as even more of a good omen than Prince Kimba and his achromia beauty.
Kilele encourages this, to a point. Oddly, she doesn’t allow her fame to stoke her ego, she’s a prudent, intelligent and no-nonsense lioness, and as observant as her mother. She capitalizes on the good will of the citizens and uses it to support her father’s decisions and cement herself as a kind of diplomat in the pride.
Queen Sheena thinks she’s just the sweetest, cleverest young lady, and helps her with her ceremonial paint every morning. Sheena is friendly with almost all of Brond’s other cubs, she’s Auntie Sheena to most of them, but Kilele is her secret favorite.
Kilele’s first cub is Kamili, she has her pretty young and absolutely dotes on her. When Kamili is grown and expecting her own cubs, Kilele introduces her to Zeituni, her baby sister! Zeituni is a bit of a wandering spirit, and leaves the Pride as an adult, eager to see the world.
Later in life, Kilele falls head over heels for a nearby ferus king, and bears her last three litters with him. The resulting cubs are all as beautiful as he is, and Kilele loves them dearly.
In total she has nine children over her long life. All daughters. Six of the nine stay in the Kalahari Pride, two go rogue, and one joins an allied pride. Kilele is very proud of all of them.
