Mochi never was quite like other cubs. Castella finally felt karma's sting - Mochi quickly became a thorn in her side much the same way she became a thorn in Gingerbread's. It didn't help that she seemed impervious to Castella's normally intimidating aura. That, or she didn't care. Nonetheless, Madeleine worries everyday that her daughter is going to get herself killed with her constant questioning.
Once Mochi is weaned, Madeleine decides to tell her the truth, hoping it would stop the questions and save her daughter's life. However, Mochi is absolutely horrified by the thought of anyone, let alone a leader, killing fellow lions in anything but self-defense. She declares that she will one day be empress, and no innocent lioness would be killed in her pride. Castella is quick to show up out of damn near nowhere and box the cub hard on the ears, reminding her she is NOT and will NEVER be the empress. It only seems to make Mochi more determined from that day on.
Mochi only becomes more of a pain to Castella as she reaches adolescence. Finally, Castella decides Mochi has to stay out of the den more often before she gets flayed open. She starts sending her out with Pretzel instead of with the hunters. Pretzel and Mochi always seem to have a lot to talk about, but Castella doesn't seem to care over her newfound peace and quiet.
As Gingerbread did to her, Castella gives Mochi the title of Baroness and tasks her with Mojito's training. Mochi loves the extra responsibility that comes with training an apprentice and Pretzel appreciates some time off. Everybody thinks she has grown out of her insolent phase. Nothing could be further from the truth. Deep down, Mochi harbors a spark of rebellion in her heart. A spark to halt the suffering Castella is causing. A spark that will ultimately burn down the dark empress's house of cards for good.
It's during the month of snow that Mochi has enough. After Castella nearly kills three cubs after they don't do well during cub training, the baroness can no longer stand the injustice she sees. She brutally attacks and cripples Castella, leaving her just as she left Gingerbread - powerless. Not before Castella screeches a curse at her though, causing Mochi to roar in pain as horns burst from her skull.
Whatever the price she paid, Mochi has done it, Castella's reign of terror is at an end.
