Darkaya had been quiet for so long about his heir that when Neru was chosen he was in shock. It had seemed like Briar was his obvious choice with how much the king had been mentoring him in the past few weeks. Neru had been the focus of that training himself at one point, and it had led him to believe that he would one day rule the pride, and today despite his pessimism it would be true. Neru had settled well into their role as leader, the pride seemed happy and was flourishing with many beautiful young. Though everything was peaceful and content they felt a strange discomfort with themselves. At another member's suggestion they did away with their mane, it had always felt heavy and disproportionate. They had realized that the mane never fit and neither did the title of king, they were happy just to be called leader.
