Canowicakte, the great king of Ancestor meadows, and her father took her to the highest rock cliff in their territory. Kiali shuffled her paws nervously she glanced at her father before looking over the edge.
Canowicakte sat down silently a still statue, his inky black pelt melting into the night sky. While his marking, mane, and strange glowing eyes were the only things to define him. He spoke slowly.
"Kiali, I brought you here not to kill you, but to heir you."
Kiali was terrified now she now had to be perfect only to disappoint her father when a better heir came along. She fought back tears and hung her head.
He continued "Yes, there are stronger and better cubs already in this pride which would be a better fit than you. As you do not fit my standards well. But I see something in you Kiali, that makes you better than even the best possible heir in Ancestor Meadows. Yes. You will need to train hard, work til you collapse, and learn everything there is to learn to be the best possible Queen. But you can do it, my child, as there is the fire of the ancestors within you."
Kiali's heart raced with excitement, stress, and confusion. She was going to be the Queen of Ancestors Meadows! She was scared of what training was going to be ahead, but she could do it.
She looked up to her father, confidence shining in her eyes, and nodded.
Canowicakte spoke for the last time that night "Now watch the stars child, as your training brings tomorrow. Learn and come back to the pride after you're done."
Kiali nodded as Canowicakte padded away. She stared at the stars all night, looking, understanding, and learning. Til her pelt merged with the morning sky and til nightfall again did she truly understand.

Kiäli trained till it felt that her paws were to fall off if she took another step. Dawn till dusk did she patrol the borders, snarling at intruders, hunting the lands while training younger pride-mates. She watched Canowicakte teach, guide, govern, and practice so that she could be a shining leader as he is. She watched as he grew older and days before her coronation he withdrew into his cave, sleeping, barely letting out patrols, and hunting parties. Kiäli grew worried but understood he was aging.
