“Kendrix always knew he was special, and not only because the humans told him; no, he felt it in his very bones that he was destined for something greater. The possibility of failure was never in his mind, but as he grew older, he realized that he’s running out of time, that there’s so much more he needs to accomplish but can’t. Anger and regret came first, but gradually he made peace with it. If he can’t be the one to reach the stars, he’ll make someone who can.” Kendrix was raised in a human cult in the outskirts of Florida. Within the cult, he was known as ‘The Shepherd.’ He guided people to the stars to face the judgment of their Goddess when they completed their journey. He played this role up until his early adulthood, when he was forcefully taken from the cult and placed into the wilderness of Savannah. He was terrified at first; the once pristine white walls and marble flooring were replaced with this endless cacophony of noises and a ground that made his paws dirtier than they ever had been before. But soon he adapted; he heard the Goddess's voice louder than he ever did before. It was her voice that told him how to survive, and it was her voice that told him to spread her word all over this hellscape. Years later, he made a new family, a pride, completely devoted to the Goddess and her message, but as he grew older, he found that he could no longer do the things that came so easily. He couldn't run after prey for so long without having to stop and catch his breath; his roar was growing more weak and shaky. His time was running out; the Goddess tried to encourage him, but that didn't erase the fact that he had not cleansed this hellscape; he didn't even make a scratch. How was he to complete their mission with so little time? But then the Goddess spoke to him, told him that he must produce a worthy heir to carry out his duty. She reassured him that she'll guide the cub like she has guided him, and with his Goddess's reassurance, he went off to tell the rest of his pride of their new mission. Kendrix doesn't care if it takes generations of cubs; his bloodline will cleanse this hellscape and eventually the entire world.
