Lore and Rule
Although the pride had begun from nothing, throughout his diligence they managed to survive, even prosper during the winter months thanks to the help of a kind neighbouring kingβ who left behind a son, Prii II, to remember him once he passed (and he did). The lionesses even decided they would cut back on hunting.
Consequences of their laziness manifested later on. The king was the only one able to sustain them, and the pride was growing at an alarming rate. They had run out of food and many lions left in search of a new lifeβ one of them being Prii II, though his sister and mother stayed behind.
The pride managed to rebuild from the ashes, going on several hunts daily and prioritizing raising strong lions. However, during this, due to the loss of Prii II DVM became more unpredictable in nature, from killing lions more frequently, to becoming more protective of the pride, and challenging any trespassers he came across while exploring. Standards for good cubs became higher, and contact with others was more sought out than usual. Despite this, his bond with his allies remained strong, and they continued to support each other.
Within their second time of reign, the Sun gave to them a gift, born from the womb of two rogue lionesses: those marked with rosettes. Clearly, there had to be some kind of separation from the main pride, they were too pure to risk being contaminated with the average lions that lay in the main den.
Thus, DVM constructed Dawn, where only the most valuable cubs would be allowed to enter. They were a gift from the Sun, clearly they needed the appropriate living quarters.
The search for an heir began at about 10 years old. DVM knew that he would not be able to conceive a strong enough heir, so he began to stud to other males. Eventually one of his step-daughters, Carrier of Storms, produced a cub that seemed to fit the standards. Both she and her mother were raised in the pride, so they could show the child around and teach them their ways. DVM had already chosen and heir and thought about pleasant retirement. The cub was strong, seemed to have good morals, and so he primed it for taking over his rule, though he did keep his options open and continued to breed to other studs.
