‧͙⁺˚･༓☾ 𝐵𝒶𝑔𝒽𝑒𝑒𝓇𝒶 ☽༓･˚⁺‧͙ 𖤐Lore𖤐 *Tribute* Crack! The beast's jaw dislocates under Bagheera's weight. She hisses as the beast writhes under her claws, squealing and spitting viscously. The beast should have long since been dead. The smell of rot clung to it, its skin hung loose on its skeletal frame. The only hints of the mighty lion it once was; the thinning tufts of fur clinging to its rotting head and the cruel yellow fangs jutting from its jaw. The creature's paw flies wildly, barely aimed at her face. It was hard to comprehend that this thing had once been alive, perhaps even with a pride of its own. She'd rather not dwell on it, it made her stomach sick. "Bagheera!" One of her fellow lionesses calls, signaling her to release her grip on the beast. She launches herself forward, her paws thrumming on the stone below. She turns for a split second, the creature is charging after her with a horrifying speed, froth spilling from its dislocated mouth. There was only one way to kill the infected. Smoke curled from the basin below, the crackling fire lighting up the previously dark and cold night. With the newfound light Bagheera could just make out the rest of the lionesses running up rocky basin walls. Heading towards the Naheri river. Just in case the fire escaped the basin. "Good," She thought, "They're all safe." She could feel the hot breath of the beast on her tail as it caught up to her. It snaps towards her. Trying to catch her tail in its crooked teeth. She wills her aching muscles to continue, faster, faster. She pleads. She skids as the edge of the basin reaches towards her, panting. She tenses every one of her muscles as the beast launches itself forward, its oustretched paws reaching for her. It barrels into her at speeds unnatural for a lion. She gasps, the air knocked out of her as they tumble backwards. The beast snarls, gripping her desperately with its claws. She growls pushing its spitting, gnashing mouth away from her and kicks her hind legs into its frail stomach launching the creature off. It growls as it spins away from her, lashing its paws, still outstretched towards her. The air grew thicker with smoke and ash, the warmth from the flames turned to cruel savage burning, licking up at her ready for the meal. Bagheera knew that if she died, right now. It would be worth it. She knew it as she stepped forward to her pride, declaring herself as tribute. "For the pride." She had said. Bagheera gasps, pain shoots through her body as she slams into a thick tree growing from the cliff face. She instinctively digs her claws into its rough bark. Her lungs racking for air. The smoke clouded her vision, her eyes watering as the stinging air fought her every movement. Air billows past her, the infected just barely misses the tree. It reaches towards her claws oustretched, Bagheera imagines the lion it was had been. The lion that was now gone. The creatures one motive, its only reason for living. Spread its disease. She watches as the flames swallow it. The creature's screeches echo in the canyon. It was the worst sound Bagheera had ever heard. Her hind legs dangled in the air, gravity threatening to drag her back down. She desperately tries to secure a foot hold in the gnarled bark. Her hind claws catch and she seizes the opportunity to heft herself up. She presses herself low against the stable tree, grasping for breath. Sobs rack her throat as she heaves, coughing furiously.
