LORE;
Onyx yawned as he awakened in his normal pride. He couldnโt believe it quite yet- he was officially an adult tomorrow! Although he was happy, he also knew what it meant. Tomorrow was the day he must leave, and either join another pride, or take over one. Onyx had always a quite small lion, as well as a stubborn one. If another lion got onto his nerves, heโd attack on the spot. All of this stubbornness and aggression had made him somewhat an outcast in the pride. The king, his own father, despised him, and had tried to kick him out early multiple times. The lionesses were hesitant to protect him when he was a cub due to his never listening, and one even said that she โdid not care what happened to him, as he would never be able to lead a prospering pride with that attitude.โ But hey, who is a broodmother to depicit his future? He shook his mane, and walked from his den. Immediately he could sense that something was wrong. The pride had settled in a cave system, and that night he had slept in the farthest den from the entrance. He listened for the normal laughing talking and roaring from the other lions, but could hear nothing but the whistle of the wind. He quickened his pace, moving faster through the narrow cave walls. As he skidded to a halt outside of the cave, he gasped in horror and shock combined. Nothing, no one. Everyone was.. gone? He raised his head and sniffed the air. The scent was faint. Had they left in the night, solely to abandon him alone? He didnt understand. He tried To follow the scent, but it was of no use. The wind had swept it in multiple directions, making it impossible to know what way it actually went. He laid down, and tried to fall asleep. Surely it was all a dream, they couldnโt have just left? He laid still for a while, trying to fall back asleep. When he finally snapped into realization that it wasnโt a dream, he got up. He walked into the storage cave, to find that they had left everything. He grabbed some beetles, a few pieces of clothing, and took off for whatever awaited him.
Onyx had been traveling for about 5 days now, and the only thing he had eaten the entire time were the beetles he grabbed. He was skinny, and having trouble finding places the sleep, let alone settle and be safe. He had caught no scent or signs of lions yet, and was losing hope. At night, he could hear the laughing and yipping of hyenas as they stalked prey. Suprisingly, he found comfort in it, and it was the only way he could fall asleep at night. And this day, as the sun set, he made an extremely risky descision. Although he had always been told to never mess with hyenas, he had decided to ask them for help. After all, it was the only way heโd be able to survive much longer. He pushed himself up, and headed in the direction he always heard the laughs coming from. Finally, he approached a dip in the earth. In the dark, he could see nothing in the dark pit. He sat down, and gave a final thought as to wether it would be a good idea. Absolutely not, but oh well. He pushed himself to his paws, and started down the dirt slope. It was quiet, and it made his fur quiver. The wind battered his fur, chilling him to the bone. Finally, he reached the bottom of the slope. He will admit, it stunk. Not only of rotting carcasses, but also of something elseโฆ hyena. Boldly, he let out a roar, announcing himself. He paused, waiting, listening. A chill ran down his spine as he heard multiple laughs and barks respond. He cringed, hearing the litter and patter of paws approaching him rapidly. He stood his ground as he started to see yellow eyes approaching him. They were uncountable as they all marched near, but one pair in particular stood out. A set of eyes stood much taller than the others, and he did not run towards him, instead he walked. After what felt like forever, the pair of eyes became visible. In darkness, the moonlight lit up the face of a large, female hyena. He had a scar running across her neck, and a snarl plastered on her snout. She came face to face with him, teeth bared.
