κΌ Smoldering Cracks and snaps of burnt wood squealing in the residual heat beacons the senses, drowning out scents with the overwhelming smell of burning wood and grass. Nothing remains in the aftermath of a wildfire, ripping itself through what used to be lush vegetation now stands the crumbling remains, falling to ash and dust beneath one's paws, it didn't matter what lived here, what called this place home- There was nothing left.. Curious minds lead those to investigate the carnage, which is where she remained. There was no smelling her, there was no scent lingering over the ashes, and she was no ghost. A lioness adorned with red and white paint stands among the desolation, surrounded by a few females by her flank, the subtle tilt of her head ushered them off to return to what they were there for.
Creeping from the smoke she stands, a large lioness with her pelt decorated with paint hid her patches of white fur over her monotoned markings, dappled with the dark rosettes that peeked out under any spot uncovered. Her feathers, hides, and bones told a story of a shaman. Silence finally breaks with a weary chuff of warning, followed by a small introduction. This is Denali, the ruling queen of this semi-nomadic pride, here to collect the remains of the wilderness before moving on, she won't be long.
Denali was born to Kiani, a dark-pelted lioness in a wandering band who found herself with a complicated birth. Leaving her band, Kiani sought out the aid of the shamans who welcomed her, and aided her in the birth. Kiani only had two cubs survive, a pair of twins, both rather abnormal from the start. Regardless, they were alive and healthy, one stunted in growth leaving him a runt, and with time, only showed the true extent of his dwarfism. His sister was better off, being the larger of the two, nothing seemed wrong until she grew a bit older, and much of her pelt started losing pigment.
Kiani was at a loss, having such a difficult birth, to the issues her pregnancy left the cubs, she was unable to safely take them back to her band, a band that constantly moved to follow food, with her son being unable to keep up, Kiani stayed among the shamans. Eventually, the twins were old enough to survive, and Kiani left them among the shamans to take care of them as she returned to her own pride.
Denali was the largest, her attitude to the world around her was met with defiance and conflict, quick to take up the mantle of carer for her twin brother, being the larger twin she became defensive and overly protective.
Thankfully, the shaman prides were understanding and fostered them in a welcoming environment, and even teaching Denali how to survive and fend for herself and her pride, alongside this, they taught her what it meant to be a shaman, and how to be one. While the twins grew, Dena's pelt continued to lose its dark rich tones that she got from her mother, and washed out around her spots, while large white blotches started consuming her pelt entirely. Meanwhile, her brother held the name 'Little M', which was an endearing nickname he was given by the adults, finding it very fitting considering his height. Regardless, the shamans bestowed him with herbal remedies to give him the strength of an adult lion upon his departure from the shaman pride.
Upon adulthood, Denali finally split from the shamans to start her own, bringing along a few females around her age to find their own home, Denali's temperament often resulted in a more destructive nature, she was quick to settle into the given name of fire starter, between picking fights with rivals, and her work in starting wildfires to drive prey out into the open, and to harvest charcoal for medicine and remedies. With her overwhelming protective nature, Denali keeps close to her brother's pride, often chasing prey off into his lands so his pride can hunt, and even going after any males that may threaten his position, labeling herself as the shaman queen. Any members who join are treated well, considering her reputation, and are cared for, anyone who stays ends up helping the pride harvest the charcoal and herbs.
