Modern Story Of Aconitira And Lucidious Meeting! (Written by the wonderful Angelic Peli (#115602))

Aconitria was growing tired. She could feel the strength leaving her body as she scaled another building. Her heart dropped at the thought of her bounty hunter catching her after all these years. She had evaded him for years, outsmarting him at every turn, and now it seemed like she was done for. One wrong move had her cornered and she wasn't sure she would be able to escape this one.

She had just successfully taken down another target. Her client wanted a very important man dead, and contacted her because she was the best at what she did. Killing people, that was. Her client was cryptic, only saying that he wanted the man dead in a very public place to make a scene.

She stalked her prey, learning his schedule and finding herself in a secluded building staring down the scope of her gun. She took a breath, and pulled the trigger. Her shot flew true, and hit her target in the head, causing him to collapse in the street. She withdrew herself into the shadows, only to find her bounty hunter, Ludicious already there. She stumbled backwards, and reacted quickly, slinging her way out of the window she had used as cover and climbing up the building.

She leapt from building to building, climbing higher when she had to. Xelifer wouldn't give up his chase though. She grew weary of all of the running and climbing, they had nearly crossed the south-side of the city. Xelifer was hot on her trail though, she couldn't remember the last time he was this close. No matter how hard she had trained, it didn't make her invulnerable.

He called out to her from not too far away, "Give up Aconitria, you know that I've won!"

"You'll win when I'm six feet under, and that's after I've put a bullet through your skull!" She called back, making the fatal mistake of looking back while running. She found herself quickly caught up with. She felt something grab her leg and yank her backwards, knocking her to the ground.

She grabbed at her leg, trying to untangle it from the netting, but it was woven tightly around it. She pulled out her pistol, taking aim at Xelifer, but he kicked it out of her hands. She tried to reach for her knife, but it was too late. He stepped on her hand to keep her from grabbing anything and had the barrel of a sawed off shotgun pressed to her throat.

"Not so mouthy now are we?" He taunted her, removing her weapons as he did so. He even somehow knew about the weapons she had hidden, that no one other than she should have known about. He trapped her further by wrapping her tighter with more netting. He handcuffed her to two of the poles on the rooftop, taking her hands out of commission.

After she was throughly declawed he moved back, taking aim with his shotgun. She tried to find an escape, but it seemed like she had finally met her match.

"Any last words Aconitria?" More taunting. Aconitria hated being taunted.

"Yeah, make sure you bury me deeper than six feet, wouldn't want to have me coming back to haunt your sorry ass now wouldn't we?" She laughed at the man standing in front of her. Even staring death in the face she found the will to smart-mouth her killer.

Xelifer moved his hand to the trigger, prepared to end this all. She would finally be gone and he could finally move on. This job had lasted him years, the chase the most difficult he had taken on so far.

He stepped back though. Did he actually want to end this? It was the most difficult job he had even done, and any job after this would be child's play. He wasn't sure what he would do after Aconitria was dead. His life had evolved to surround the hunt for her, every day waking up excited to chase her down again.

He took his hand off the trigger. He couldn't go through with this. Without Aconitria his life didn't have a meaning. He needed this chase or he wouldn't be the same man that he had always been.

When confronted with the prize buck, sometimes you have to realize that if you take him down, there's nothing left for you to achieve. After you've won the greatest prize, what's next? Nothing will ever amount to your previous accomplishments and you lose meaning to your life. You sometimes have to let the prize buck go.

He returned the gun to its carrier and dropped the key to the cuffs on the ground. If she was as good as she had always been, she'd find a way to get free. And the chase would begin again.
