The first king of this land was a brutal one. He did not believe in letting the weak survive, and he murdered many lions. His pride died out quickly, for the gods did not like how much death was spreading through the land and sent a plague down upon them. Their spirits were rumored to still haunt their old pride lands, though what they were doing there was debated. Some said that the spirits only wanted to make sure what happened to them didn't happen to any other lions, while others said that they were vengeful spirits hoping to drag any lion who tried to claim the lands and his whole pride to an early grave.

The first king of the pride was not a suspicious male. He didn't believe that there even were spirits that inhabited his newly claimed land, until he saw one with his own eyes. It was a celestial lioness, warning him of the upcoming floods. He kept that bit of information in the back of his mind, not even believing really that she had spoken to him. He thought that she was a hallucination, until the floods came, worse than ever before. He was able to get his pride out of harm's way, but he knew that it was only because of the celestial lioness.

They appeared more frequently after the floods, shadowy lions that nudged cubs away from danger and pushed prey closer to the hunting lionesses. They hadn't hurt any of the pride members yet, but some of the older lions were still wary. The spirits could turn on them at any moment, so they guarded their cubs closely, not allowing them to go near the shadows. They grew more trusting as the spirits helped them, sending cubs to be taught the ways of the spirits.

By the time Victor Nikiforov became leader, they had established a system of lions who communed with the spirits, called Shamans. Lions outside of Victor's pride didn't trust the Shamans, believing that they communed with demons and were not to be trusted. In fact, the kind spirits of Victor's land were still seen as demons, and Victor's pride was feared because they were thought to be possessed.

But, till he has given permission, the Pride may not eat of that Kill.
