Pride Lore

Generations past, this pride was ruled by a great lion named Permafrost. Though he wasn't the first king, he was by far the most memorable. He was a noble and fair monarch, and his reign lead the pride to prosperity and peace. However, his sovereignty was brought to an end when his age caught up to him. His pride mourned, but quickly accepted a new, unrelated leader as was tradition. Decades passed, power passing between monarchs as time progressed. The old king's name was reduced to an old story, remembered only by the most ancient of huntresses, but this would not last. The name was brought to light once more when the good-natured ruler Flunk was deposed by a pair of fearsome sisters. The first, a brute and fearsome lioness claimed that she was the last "pure" descendent of Permafrost, and took up his name, as well as the position of queen. The pride could see some resemblance in her frosty fur, but was quietly doubtful of the legitimacy of her claims. The second sister, though considerably younger and with a fiery coat, was as equally as wicked as the first. Her name was Coulee, and she served as Permafrost II's prophet and general. Together, the two sisters ruled over the pride with Coulee's cardinal visions, and Permafrost II's ruthless enforcement of pride laws. Eventually, Permafrost II met her demise. From her death onward her descendants have ruled the pride in a similar fashion, always advised by Coulee. Rumour has it that she's the one truly in charge of the pride.
