Essence

You enter a seemingly abandoned den, hiding away from the heat for a brief moment. Warily looking around, you carefully explore the den, not wanting to anger its leader by poking around where you shouldn't. Yet curiosity gets the best of you as you go deeper and deeper into the den. After a small walk, you reach a large room with a lone lion sitting at the center of it. In front of him is a pool of liquid that seems to burn and crackle, red like lava yet didn't seem like it. You examine the lion, noticing his commanding presence and cold eyes first. His front leg also seemed to have a metallic wrap bandaged around it. His fur shined with a multitude of colors and had large canines that protruded slightly. He stares at you then beckons for you. Hesitant at first, you approach him carefully. The air seems to crackle and spark the closer you get. It was then that you noticed the room itself. Water seemed to drip then freeze from the ceiling, almost cycling between both forms. The dirt on the floor seemed to drift lightly, as if a small wind blew in. You get a bit closer, steering clear of the pool of liquid as you approach the lion. He seems to examine you as well as he stares at you. After a few awkward seconds, he says "who am I?" not quite the words you were expecting, you stare at him dumbfounded and think. Who is he?
