the smell of home trickles away as you walk on the furthest stretches of the land, your pupils round from the pitch darkness. the only lingering sound in the air is dry grass crunching beneath your feet, and your tail swinging lazily behind yourself.
in a short burst of trotting you stumble across the edge of a ravine, nearly toppling right over as if it had appeared before your very eyes. the burnish glare of a fire in the heart of the valley so hard to miss it catches your gaze for an unnerving moment, what looks like lion shapes lounging about the rift like the pyre doesn't even exist.
what sounds like a grasshopper crunching through grass behind you turns out to be a skinny, yet awfully toned lion, their body a bit like a lioness'.
a coat tied around their neck twirls in the wind as a breeze pushes past you both, their ears flattening. the lion clears their throat.
" greetings and salutations.., "
the lion makes a face at you as they finish speaking, their head holding up a little higher.
they don't give you a second glance, flicking you with their tail and beginning to walk off to what could be the entrance of this lion's territory.
scepticism in your mind drifts away as you watch them walk, bristled fur settling.
you follow reluctantly... maybe this can't be that bad..?
