BACKSTORY OF GALLODELCIELO

GalloDelCielo knows nothing about his past. When he opened his eyes he was alone, among the sharp black rocks of a desert. Meowing as only lion cubs can do when, deep inside, they know for sure that death is just around the corner waiting for them, he begs for mercy and asks for help. A mare passing through the valley with her foal, looking for new pastures to graze on, hears that sound. Only a mother could hear that noise and follow her instincts to find the source. The mare found the little one and, going against every prey-predator survival instinct, nestled him on her back and began to gallop towards new green meadows. He gave the little boy a name GalloDelCielo, which means "rooster from the heavens".
He grew up healthy and strong among the horses of the herd. But one day, when he turned 2, his bloodlust became unstoppable. It was September, and the locusts devouring the meadows seemed to whisper cruel and bloody phrases in his ear, making him fantasize about the massacre and driving him mad. He could not confess these unhealthy desires to his mother or his brothers and sisters. They would have kicked him out of the pack for sure. So, at the first light of dawn on a September day, he tried to escape to save his herd of horses from his murderous hunger. But his mother saw him, and chased him, trying to stop him. He didn't want to explain to her the reason for his escape, and begged her to go away, to let him go. She objected and the unthinkable happened. He doesn't even remember what happened, his memory has erased that horrible crime, as if someone else had committed it, as if the fangs and claws covered in his mother's blood weren't his. Since then his coat has been indelibly stained with blood, and the seed of madness has crept into his mind. He professes to be a sorcerer and tries to contact his lost mother by talking to the spirits of the afterlife. His lionesses say it's all a fruit of his imagination ... yet some of them know they have seen strange things happen on September nights, at the first light of dawn: they swear to had seen him running on the great prairie next to a silver-colored mare.
