The Shadow Realm's Story:

Long ago there was a beast known only as Shalmo. He dominated over the pride lands of the Shadow realm as a fearsome leader. To those who knew him though he was gentle and kind. His reign grew ever expansive with cubs and heirs being born to new mothers who had found him to be an irresistible leader and mate. Some cubs grew under him and their mother, some went to explore the great beyond past the boundaries they'd grown with and some lionesses took their young from Shalmo, leaving him to mourn the loss of his young knowing they'd be unseen again by his eyes. One day as Shalmo grew old and wise he knew it was time to pass the title along to his next sucessor, Marquis, once the young cub he took in from the depths now to be a great heiress and sire to many a young. "Marquis" Shalmo said to the young queen to be. "Yes Shalmo, how may i serve you today my king." He never could get her to break the professional tone though he knew in her heart she viewed herself as another child of his. "Marquis walk with me today, we must talk of the future." As the two walked he told her of his age and how he needed an heir, he needed Marquis to be the new leader of this pack. She accepted the gracious offer and was soon crowned queen, painted by the pack shaman with the empress paint, she became a trusted and loved leader by all. Her demeanor softened and she soon became a loving and kind ruler like Shalmo was. While she took the pack name of Shalmo as ruler, she always remained Marquis in the hearts of her and her pride. She comforted Shalmo with his favorite mates as he passed into the great night. "Father... I will lead the people in a way that makes you proud." She gave her final words to him as he passed a single tear dripping from her eye and turned to guide the people once again. Marquis shall pass down the throne someday, but not before she makes her impact.
