Long ago, there was a lion named Abedi of South Africa, captive bred and released into the wild to help with repopulation. Abedi was a loner for quite some time after his release, until he found a small group of Lionesses, led by a beautiful lioness named Nafula. He and Nafula quickly fell in love, and the other Lionesses began to respect him as an authoritative figure, and equal to their leader Nafula. They soon became King and Queen, taking the titles seriously when self appointed, and became very just rulers.

It was said that at the founding of Abuchi Pride, with the founder King Abedi, a lion who truly belongs in the pride shall be chosen by an animal and be their companion wherever they go. If a lion is not chosen by an animal of different species within four seasons of their presence in the pride, they shall be chased off or shunned by the rest of the pride.

Over a couple generations, it had grown to be a tradition that all cubs that remain in the pride, and all Lionesses that join, be named with the first letter of their mother or father, female cubs after their mother, male cubs after their father. If they do not remember/ have an unknown mother or father, they are given a new name and their cubs shall get their first initial.

A King must only have a truly romantic relationship with his Queen, and vice versa. The rest of the lionesses in the pride are only friends with benefits. A love between king and queen must be true, and the eldest of their cubs shall become the next in line (this counts for adopted cubs too), unless the eldest is not fit for the role, then it goes down the line of succession until a fit ruler is found.
