I've seen very few suggestions regarding this so I figured i'd throw together a post. I'm sure there are quite a few of us on this site that rather loathe our first roll male, whether it be for stat reasons or aesthetics. So you save up, you get a stud lined up but you're stuck waiting for the prior stud to keel over. Not everyone is patient enough to wait months for their male to reach retirement age and not everyone has the means to buy GB to pay the early retirement fee.

Now I understand completely that yes, the game needs money to continue to run and provide updates to the player base, however, I don't believe players should be penalized for wanting to replace a character they're not happy with. I'm aware there are options to customize your lion and or re-roll but those aren't exactly viable solutions, not everyone wants or can afford to customize and not everyone wants to chance a roll on a new male.

Here are a few suggestions:

Adjust the fee as your male ages.

Example image credit to Cass #6313 :

As your male ages, lower the fee according to age/time until free retirement. This way the dev's still get funds for further development of the game but you aren't so harshly penalized if your male is closer to retirement age.

Introduce Challenges- Make subordinate males more useful.

Right now as it stands, sub males are pretty much useless. It's incredibly difficult to build up their stats through patrolling and if you haven't gotten a high stat cub, you're pretty much out of luck. Giving your subordinate males the opportunity to overthrow the current king would make subordinate males much more useful than they currently are.

• Subordinate male is successful, provide options such as;

You have successfully dethroned the king!
Chase from the pride. (+ Stat/Impression gain) Kill (- Negative karma gain + stats)

To prevent people from abusing this, limits could be put in place ranging from challenging only when the current male reaches < x > age or setting a limit per week/month you can challenge.

TLDR;

- Adjust fees as your male ages.
- Introduce subordinate male challenges.

If your sub chases or kills your king.. Do you still have the option of keeping his coat?

Considering death is essentially the same in the end despite the means, whether it be by subordinate male challenge or old age, you still have the option of using the prior king's appearance.

I rather like this idea! It would be interesting to get the sub-male a chance to do something like that.

I also agree that if your male is 10 years old, it should cost a bit less to retire him.

I support this and I think a lot more people in my position will too, see I have one sub male at the moment,Hala, he's 8 and a half I think and I really want him to be my next king but my problem is that he will be to old by the time my current lion dies. Hala has high stats, well higher then Huru's any way and I don't see how in the wild a strong lion like him would be a sub male to a weaker lion so by bringing in the Sub male challenges it would make the game more realistic and he would be able to over throw my curent king earlier and I love that idea because I can't afford the other option of early retiring my male with GB

This will also help a lot of the newer members get better lions faster! They buy a lion with better stats, have them beat the old king, and bam! You've got a lovely new lion! I totally support this idea!

I feel as if, should the sub male loses, he must be removed from the pride to prevent abuse of the feature.

I know if someone attacked me I'd remove them from my life pretty quickly.

Totally support! It's an endless waiting game now for your lion to level up the stats

full support.
But you know what i was allways thinking about this Submale can go over the current king.

What if there is a chance that it would be a battle like the pvp but only for the mainlion and the submale?
So that the submale CAN lose too and would be chased off (or killed by the current king).

So it would be so: when you have a realy good sub. But you also have a realy good stated main you would thinking twice if you want to attack him or want to buy (or wait) for the retirement.

@Kraft - This wouldn't be a very popular feature. A lot of people work hard and collect beetles to buy that new high stated sub male. This feature would mainly be for the ones who are still on their first roll lion/low statted lion, not people who have high statted main lion, as you do.

@Lissakatze - The PvP idea is sort of how I envisioned it happening as well, though at this point that system is mostly based off of luck, and not really tying in the type of opponent like it should, which is what this would need. (Ever lose a fight against a caracal/cub? Yeah.) But, as stated above, I don't think any lions should be killed/chased off against your will from a fight. Especially one you paid for. There could be another way to penalize the sub male.

Also, Wulf, maybe a good thing to add would be a sub male cooldown for taking over the pride in general. So that if a sub male does lose, he would not be available to take over the pride at all - meaning you couldn't try at challenging, lose, and then go straight to the paying option. You would have to wait. (Not sure what the cooldown could be. A year or two in-game?)

Maybe an idea to penalize the submale would be to prevent him from going on patrol for a while, like 5 Lioden months (5 days real time) so he couldn't add up his stats to attack the main again.
