Dear Mr/Miss,

We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please find enclosed a list of all necessary books and equipment.

Term begins on 1 September. We await your owl by no later than 31 July.

Rules and Joining

i. If you cannot give three lines per post, then this rp is not for you. Semi to Advanced literacy, please. I understand having off days, but replying to one liners is, in my opinion, difficult and uninteresting. If anything, at least try to match the post of the persons you're rping with.

ii. Be respectable to everyone in the roleplay.

iii. Do not power-play/god-mod or just be plain unrealistic and, trust me, it's easy to do all these things in a magic roleplay such as this one.

iv. Keep all roleplay material appropriate. Curses should only be used as appropriate for the Harry Potter universe; that said, things such as 'shit' and 'bloody hell' are fine, but don't go dropping the F bomb or worse. Also, use fade to black for romantic scenes, and please leave out any super gory descriptions.

v. As for characters, there are some specifics. For starters: realism. Nobody's perfect, give your characters flaws. Also, try to keep genders even. Other than that, this is a magic rp and there are going to be some oddities.

vi. Be as active as you can. As long as you post once a week, everything should be fine.

To join, please click here and fill out the posted form.

Character Sheets

No thread generated. The original poster of this RP thread will be able to generate one for this feature.

House of Gryffindor

By Gryffindor, the bravest were prized far beyond the rest;

The Gryffindor common room is located behind the portrait of the Fat Lady located on the seventh floor of Hogwarts Castle. A password is required to enter it.

The Gryffindor Tower is a circular room of squashy armchairs, tables, and a bulletin board. A window looks out onto the grounds of the school, and a large fireplace dominates one wall. The walls are decorated with scarlet tapestries that depict witches and wizards as well as various animals.

The brave, daring, heroic and spirited; those always ready to fight and save the day, who would die for their loved ones and always do what is right… Welcome to Gryffindor.

House of Ravenclaw

For Ravenclaw, the cleverest would always be the best;

The entrance to the common room is located on the west side of Hogwarts at the top of a spiral staircase, presumably located on the fifth floor, and is a door without a doorknob or keyhole, but a bronze knocker in the shape of an eagle. In order to enter the room, a person must answer a riddle asked by the eagle knocker; if they answer incorrectly, they must wait for someone else who gets it right.

The Ravenclaw Tower is one of the airiest rooms at Hogwarts. It is a wide, circular room with a midnight blue carpet, arched windows hung with blue and bronze silks, and a domed ceiling painted with stars. During the day, Ravenclaw students have an excellent view of the school grounds, including the lake, Forbidden Forest, Quidditch pitch, Herbology gardens and the surrounding mountains. The room is furnished with tables, chairs, and bookcases; and by the door leading up to the dormitories stands a tall statue of Rowena Ravenclaw made of white marble.

the wise, curious, witty and quirky; those who desire knowledge, those fascinated by secrets, mysteries and enigma, who want to understand the world and themselves… Welcome to Ravenclaw.

House of Hufflepuff

For Hufflepuff, hard workers were most worthy of admission;

The entrance to the common room is located "in a nook on the right hand side of the kitchen corridor", concealed behind a stack of barrels. In order to reveal the entrance, no password is required. Instead, one must tap the barrel two from the bottom, middle of the second row, in the rhythm of ‘Helga Hufflepuff’, which will make the lid swing open, exposing a passageway that will lead to the basement when crawled through. However, if the wrong lid is tapped or the wrong rhythm is used, the intruder will be doused in vinegar and barred access.

The Hufflepuff Basement is round, earthy, low-ceilinged, welcoming, warm, and sunny. There are lots of yellow hangings, burnished copper, and overstuffed sofas and armchairs upholstered in yellow and black, and circular windows that provide a vista of "rippling grass and dandelions". The head of house, Pomona Sprout, also teaches Herbology and as such brings many interesting plants in to decorate the common room (some of which dance and talk), placing them on the windowsills or having them hang from the ceiling, encouraging interest in Herbology (and hence part of why Hufflepuffs tend to be good at it). There is also a large, honey coloured, wooden mantelpiece with carvings of badgers on it. This is located underneath a portrait of the house's founder, Helga Hufflepuff.

the loyal, patient, kind and true; those who believe in equality and hard work, who will protect their families and friends at all costs… Welcome to Hufflepuff.

House of Slytherin

And the power-hungry Slytherin loved those of great ambition;

The entrance to the common room is located behind a stone wall in the dungeons of Hogwarts Castle. A password is required to enter it; whereupon a passage is revealed leading to the common room.

The Slytherin Dungeon is a dungeon-like room with greenish lamps and chairs. This dungeon extends partway under the lake, giving the light in the room a green tinge. The common room has lots of low backed black and dark green button-tufted, leather sofas; skulls; and dark wood cupboards. It has quite a grand atmosphere, but also quite a cold one. The password to the common room changes every fortnight, and it is posted on the noticeboard. It is decorated with tapestries featuring the adventures of famous Medieval Slytherins.

the ambitious, cunning, determined and resourceful; those who crave power and greatness, and always play to win, who know what they want and are not afraid to get it… Welcome to Slytherin.
