Rules for posting on the official thread:
1) While you will not be punished if you do not do this, from now on, when you post, please put your character's name, gender, and species (if your character is royal add that too) at the top of your post- like this:
Name, Gender, Species, (if royal) Prince(ss)

2) Please, if you're going to interact with another character, please check what they're currently doing. If you just shove your way into something, you will be reprimanded up to four times and then kicked out. You make the RP less enjoyable for other players when you don't pay attention.



The plot of this RP concerns the enmity between different species of merfolk. Because of this, four royal children are being pushed to marry a merperson of another species. There are competitions to fight for the Royals' hands in marriage. Before these competitions, the royals will speak to those competing and get to know them. The royals themselves may also compete in these competitions.

The Species:

Traditional: Your traditional mermaid, prefers the shallows. Can breathe in both air and water. Their voices can be used as weapons but they also use spears. They also use their voices to entrance others, whether they be human or other mer. Traditional mer cannot use their voices against each other.
Selkies: seal people. They are merfolk who, when they don the pelt of a seal, can become seals. They breathe only air but can find sources of oxygen in bubbles. They can store oxygen for long amounts of time. They sleep in undersea caves in their human forms with only their torsos above water. They are deadly in both of their forms, and in their human forms, they use daggers.
Deep sea: They are exotic and unique, and entrancing. When they use a special power, a glance from their uniquely colored eyes can bring any member of the opposite sex under their spell. They use chains for weapons, which often have sharp weapons at the end, or have spikes. They can breathe air, but believe that oxygen not gained from water is "tainted." They have scales that trail up their sides, all the way to their faces, and trail over their cheekbones. They also have dark tattoo-like markings, and the markings are unique to each merperson.
Oceanids: They have legs, but those legs are scaled, and end in long feet which are more like fins. Their hands, like their feet, are also webbed. Their scales trail up to their stomachs. They can walk upon land. Their legs are extremely powerful, and their main weapon. They often attach sharp objects to the scales of their legs, and to their fins, but also use long, thin, double-edged swords.

The enmities:
The traditionals and selkies have no quarrel with each other, and allied in ancient history.
The deep sea merfolk are distrusted by all, and they have a long-standing feud with the Oceanids.
The Oceanids are reviled by all other species because they are viewed as human-like.
The traditionals hate the deep sea especially.
The selkies hate the Oceanids. Even though they could be claimed to be more human-like than the Oceanids, they hate them because they are human-like and humans have often damaged seals and captured selkie women to take as wives.

Which Royal is your character pursuing? She is royal: she's trying to find a partner that will do well for her people and hopefully form an alliance. She wants to marry for love, but knows it is likely impossible.
Personality: She is colder than an iceberg, and ferocious and battle-hungry as well. However, she can be kind at times, if a chink is discovered in the armor surrounding her heart.
Weapon of choice: a spiked chain.
Appearance: Her hair is cut in sharp, sleek bob. Her hair is black. She has eyes of deepest purple, like the depths of the sea. Her tail is smoothly scaled and lithely but powerfully muscled, and a deep blue so dark it's almost black. Her markings are sharp lines in a dark, shimmery silver. Her skin is a lovely shade of pale gold, hinting that if she lived in a more shallow part of the sea, she would have a gorgeous golden tan.
