Hello!

As everyone knows, our coding abilities on Lioden's forums are a bit... limited. And by limited, I mean to the bare minimum.

But that's where this suggestion comes in!

The suggestion goes a little something like this:

Enable something like doHTML. doHTML is actually a BBCode tag used on iPBFree forums that allows for the use of both advanced HTML and CSS to be coded into a post, but must be activated by the precursor tag or it will not come up. Style tags, used only on Proboards, is also a good example of this. You can use this to make posts beautiful, organized, and even incredibly personal.

Example:

Another alternative is to enable CSS and Advanced HTML for posts - but not in the way that you would use CSS on your den. It should be post-isolated so that people couldn't make their ENTIRE THREAD PAGE look like a clown threw up on it. Like above, you'd have to code the post instead of using an uploaded stylesheet. It would then be post-isolated and you wouldn't have to worry about clown-throwup-thread pages. It would end up looking like above, but without the [doHTML] tags to make the coding active.

PROS:
Clean, organized and personalized threads.
CSS/HTML/Thread Coding Commission economy upped.
More people willing to learn coding.
Those that usually don't know coding won't try to use it. Like now, most people don't even bother.

Cons:
Someone just learning how to code and messing it up, maybe creating a chaotic mess of a thread. Can be fixed tho.
Might be confusing to some. Generally shouldn't be that hard to figure out for 16 year olds.

If you DO NOT SUPPORT: Please let me know why. I have a scrambled mind and tend to make initiative jumps so sometimes I have the answers to things but didn't think of them at the time!

I'm kind of on the fence because, for example, some forum systems don't allow HTML period because some malicious users can inject nasty things into the code. phpBB is one of those forum systems.

I've been on plenty of phpBB forums that have HTML enabled. And while that's true that it's happened in the past, I doubt it would happen here, and I honestly don't think anyone here [besides the coders themselves] would be able to do such a thing.

But, like I said - there are ways around it. Take Proboard's/iPokemon's Style Tags plugin for example. It's safe, and you can do some AWESOME things with it.

I just think that it would be a great advancement for the forum. Plus, I would hope that there are protections already put in place to prevent this type of thing already?

Either way, I know there are ways to compromise to where we can all get what we want - awesome coding for posts AND safety from assholes who just want to watch the world burn.

I like to think Lioden doesn't have any malicious users. Along with the fact that there should be 'report post' buttons, and moderators, I think it would be a lovely thing to have. Especially since they already exist on Lion profiles

@waya; the enable html option for phpBB is a plugin that is user made. That option is not in the code by default, and that's for a reason.

@Suburban; while that may be true, the problem is you never know. Personally, I'd rather air on the side of caution. But opinions are like buttholes, so.
