The mare cleared her throat slightly, her head dipping down before she picked it up proudly answering the male, "Greetings, I'm Kai. Who might you be?" Her ears flickered around slightly, the mare taking a look around the treeline. Sensing eyes on them and it unsettled her, the mare turned slightly to be ready to run, unknowingly revealing the long jagged marks down her shoulder and rump. Her muscles twitched under her skin slightly, tail swishing behind her.

"I'm Kitchi," he chirped amiably before noticing the long gashes on her side. He was curious about the story, but elected not to ask just yet. The feeling of eyes bored onto him and he had the instinct to turn and stare at the woods. His incongruous eyes scanned the treeline, searching in every shrub and hedge. A menacing pair of glowing eyes stared back at them from the leaves and the longer Kitchi looked, the more appeared. Immediately, he knew their identity. "Don't look now, but something's watching us from the woods," he whispered, slowly turning his body so that he faced away from the forest, but he kept his neck stretched back to watch, "When I say 'run,' run." The lead wolf crept from the bush slightly, its muscles bunching and the tip of its nose only barely showing. The pack's intent was obvious. The leaves rustled as the predator burst from the bush. "Run!," Kitchi shouted, taking off at as quick of a gallop as he could muster. The feral howls of the pack sounded as more emerged, following the pair of mustangs.

Kai smiled at him briefly, her scars burning as the eyes grew in number. The beasts were thin from a uneventful winter and were prepared to hunt the horses. Her eyes rolled slightly in fear, the mare balking before taking off after Kitchi, aiming a well timed buck and kicking a lobo square in the throat. She opted to stick close to him, as he wouldn't have been able to keep up with the mare. Kai let out a whinny as they began loosing the beasts, slowly, one by one they turned and left. Except the lead, he trailed the pair for far longer then she would have liked. Her body shuddered at the remembrance of why she had some of those scars, her head tossing slightly as she raced off, pulling ahead of Kitchi slightly. Though she refused to leave the male behind. The lead let out a howl and was attempting to rally his members back into the chase.

The lead wolf sprinted forward as his pack ignored him, desperate for even the smallest morsel. His family was starving and the two equines were the only sizable prey he'd found in a while. Kitchi squealed with pain as fangs and claws dug into his backside, struggling to hold on. The stallion jumped into the air, bucking and rocking with his neck almost between his front legs. He spun, kicking out one last time as his attacker released, leaving twin gashes along his hindquarters. The wolf landed in a heap several feet away and Kitchi immediately bolted again, ignoring the searing pain stabbing his flanks. As the wolf limped away, discouraged and injured, the mustang slowed to a stop, breathing heavily through his nostrils. "I guess we match now," he choked out to Kai, the pain just now reaching him as crimson blood dripped down his dark brown fur and stained one of his white stockings.

She squealed as the lead lunged for Kitchi, snapping out with her head to try and buffer the male away but missed. Pain struck her as the lobo left deep marks in the stallions hind quarters. She slowed after he did, immediately moving to investigate the wounds, after all she'd had her fair share of them. The mare glanced around slowly, taking in the details of their surroundings, breathing heavily through her nostrils. Sides heaving from the running she'd done throughout the day. Icy eyes locked on a small river, just deep enough to cover the stallions wounds, she bopped his rump with her muzzle. Herding him towards the water carefully, without a word she nodding to it, implying the male let the gently flowing water clean away the already drying blood running to his leg. She trotted back a few steps and rocketed over to the other side of the river, allowing herself to sniff many of the flowers. She had a basic knowledge of healing plants from the indians she used to live with. Lucky to find a bit of Comfrey root, which she dropped onto the soil nearby and continued searching. A bit of Dandelion leaves, A dash of Goldenrod, and a bit of Horsetail. She smiled and brought them over to Kitchi. "This may sting." She muttered after he got out of the river, using her muzzle and hooves to mush and apply the plants near the wound or instructing to be ingested as needed. After the mare took a few generous gulps of water from the river before returning to his side and inspecting it once more.

Kitchi limped to where the mare instructed him, immediately lowering himself slowly into the water. The liquid was soon dyed a faint red as it carried the leaking blood away and cleaned his fur. He winced as the refreshing liquid soothed his injuries, calming the pain. It slowly boiled back up as Kai's soft lips applied the poultice that stung at first, like she'd warned it would, but gradually relieved him. "Thanks," he laughed, clenching his jaw at how much it hurt, "I'm glad we weren't dinner."

The mare bobbed her head slightly, "No problem, yea.. I've nearly been dinner one to many times now." She gestured to her rump and shoulder with a grimace, her head shaking slightly. "Lobo's do some damage when starving." Her head shook before giving a nervous chuckle, "Oh sorry... You probably don't know what that means... Lobo is a uh... whatever you call those beasts that just attacked you." She hadn't yet learned the English word for wolf yet, it was one of the one native words she clung to. Much like ama (water) and Mai (Coyote). Her tail lashed against her sides as an onslaught of flies attacked her pelt which was glistening with sweat. Kai snorted slightly, reaching around and crunching down on a horsefly which had stuck to her stomach, the ripping away causing a slight trickle of blood to follow but she paid it no mind.

Kitchi stood up, letting his fur drip. He looked almost black now, his pelt covered in sweat and water that darkened the hairs. "A wolf," he suggested, "That's what I call them at least." He stood there for a few moments, his tail switching casually, until he spoke again. "So, what happens now?"

She nodded, tasting the word on her tongue, "Wolf... I'd rather stick with lobo for now. Kai shrugged at his question, "We could always band together?" please say yes!!, "I've been alone for years now, ever since that horrible storm 2 years ago... Though I'm not sure it hit out here." She bent to pick at a few blades of grass slowly, not sure if the handsome stallion would deny or accept her request, though she prayed it was the latter.

Kitchi was inwardly ecstatic that the mare had asked before he did. He'd wanted to ask himself, but was glad that she had done it for him. "Sure," he chirped, trying not to sound too excited. He'd finally have company! Someone to talk to that would actually reply!

The white beast gladly accepted the invitation the patched mare offered, pressing his nose against her own standing completely still as the females scent washed over him, and her half warning, half flirtation offered in the form of a harmless nip on the nose. Muscles quivered in the presence of the scent that so lured any male, extra energy catalyzed into a gentle bobbing of Lux'noticus's large alabaster head. "My name is Lux'noticus." The white stallion murmured in liquid dark tones. His attention focused on the Scarlet as she moved between him and the other, younger (and quite beautiful) female inviting the mare over to converse.

Wild yearning in his soul tamed for now in the presence of the two mares, Lux'noticus watched the two with interest dark pink iris and light blue iris thoughtful as he waited to see how the two would respond to each other.

River cocked her head slightly as the older mare approached her, but immediately accepted her presence. She seemed to mean no harm, so the skewbald would accept her invitation to the conversation. 'Hello,' she'd quietly begin, addressing mainly the other mare, but accepting if the stallion chose to listen. 'Am I interrupting? I'll leave if that's the case,' she added quickly, not meaning to intrude on their interaction. She smiled at the older mare as she waited for something to be said about her presence. River assumed she'd have to leave, so in preparation, took a step backward, but lingered just in case they'd want to include her.

Lux. This would be the better half of his name that was to be remembered, matched with the signature aroma that she had so greedily stolen off his alabaster nostrils. Scarlet would then vacate the stallion's side, but not without a regal bobbing of her skull performed in proper dismissal. The Queen's focus was more solely held in River's favor, forwards ears gobbling down the strangers words as Scarlet approached further in bold fashion. She hoped to bump noses with this individual as well, intent on ruling this little shindig.

"Of course not," she'd respond upon drawing nearer to the younger fae, intending to test Lux's patience. Just another ingenious way of weighing his worth against her other choices of a man. It was quickly becoming obvious that this pinto mare was more interested in the mare anyways. Stallions could come and go, what with their constant warring with one another for control. But a solid herd foundation, with tight knit mares at its base? This was more important to Scarlet. And she would, without a doubt, try to scoop this filly under her command.

After a formal nose bump, if gotten, the Queens lips would attempt to move to River's mane. Hoping to find clumps of debris there that she could remove for her newest little friend. Posture and poise hinted towards the desire to express dominance, but in the same moment a gentle nature arose from her insides. "What's a pretty thing like you doing out here all alone," she'd question, hiding the fact that she herself was alone as well. "Tis no place for a lady." Yes, come come, let me care for you and clean you up, little dove.

With Lux behind her, Scarlet not dare flick her tail nor waft those scents in teasing fashion. She had more class than that, than most mares. But if he stayed patient? Oh, by God would he be blessed! She'd properly invite him soon, if he hadn't already wiggled in with a self given invitation.
