Defiant
The shadows seeped through everything, even the sun seemed to dim down and the plants seemed to wilt. Something dark was coming… something so terrible no one could have even guessed what it was. At first those weeks were only partly strange; people were irritable, and snapped at the smallest things. It almost made sense, the crops stopped growing, and everything seemed to freeze. It started getting worse, they started fighting with words, running out of their houses ready to lynch the first person who broke the fragile set of laws that were in place. But then it happened. The Illness.
It started with a very inhuman scream, a cloud passed over what was left of the sunlight… a chilling groan fit only for the life of a man in want of death. Fear keeps the rest of your family inside, only you feel the courage to peek out, your Guardian behind you looks on with narrowed eyes. You could see the being approaching, someone you knew quite well in the past. But as you stared into the dark hollows that have replaced their eyes, you knew you didn’t know that person any longer. He did not walk as a human walks, but as an ape might walk. Hunched over, with his knuckles curled into loose fists, his hair was a mess strangely enough for he was well groomed in the past. But this shadow of a man, he was roving about like a strange dog, he clawed the doors of the houses he passed, panting and hissing strangely.
This was no man, this was an animal in the shape of an man. Your blood runs cold and you stiffen withdrawing quietly. Another unearthly screech pierces the air as he crashes against the door after you draw it closed. You grip the wood handle tightly, calling your family to get back.
If only it were just that man. Not all of them, not every single one of them. If only it hadn’t been your family, your friends, the people you cared about. If they hadn’t lost it and turned into animals, if only you hadn’t had to run, if only it had just been a nightmare. If only they hadn’t caught the same Illness.
Now each morning when you wake up, you think of their faces after that horrible moment, they were gone now, you had a feeling deep down that they were out of their misery and now within a different place. Perhaps at peace, which was a good thought, but now, you are alone. All alone except for a voiceless beast who stares at you with large an expecting eyes. Even with your mental connection and telepathic way of communication you felt so alone. You’d caught wind though that there was a settlement of people like you, maybe you might explore and head over that direction.

The Race: You are a part of a race of people very similar to the humans of old, you are called the Kintari. There are several different variants of Kintari I will list here.
Endari: These people are the most human like of the race, they have pointed ears and extra vertebrae just like the rest of the race. They are skilled in science and enjoy reading and "educated past times" more than the other races.
Mincale: These people are a little more like animals, similar to anthros they have a closer connection with their Guardians.
Qultay: These people are often warriors and are considered heroes of old. They build up muscle mass far easier than the other variants and grow thick hair.
Faireo: These people are nearly elfin, they enjoy hiding and have a very soft sheen. Often they are skilled hunters.

You have moved into the settlement of people that are very similar to you. One thing you noticed is that they all have Guardians, just like you. Perhaps all of your new found family will be able to find a cure for this terrible Illness.

These are the different careers you can have. You may only pick one… unless you are an Advisor or Scientist.
Hunter: You are the swiftest and most cunning in the city. You go out each day in hopes of catching enough food for the entire community. You and the other hunters are well known and well liked. You are often sent out on reconnaissance missions and you often recover other people who are like you. (11/12 open slots)
Advisor: This is a secondary career, and it is one that comes with great cost to you. You constantly are striving for the better of this new community, you help decide on incredibly difficult issues in hopes of helping the community outlast the Illness. (3/5 slots open)
Scientist: You work hard every day to figure out what in the world is wrong with your world. You work with other scientists in order to maybe find a cure to help everyone you run across that have the Illness. (6/6 slots open)
Warrior: You are not well liked, you are known for your short temper and your hard ways. You’re battle hardened and respected by the hunters. Your Guardian is large and muscular ready to help in the fight against the Illness. (11/12 slots open)

Fire: Your Guardian is linked closely to fire. It gives you the ability to occasionally use fire.
Light: Your Guardian is linked to light, it glows softly in the dark and gives you the capability to get rid of some of the darkness that surrounds your world.
Water: Your Guardian is related to water, it can create small waves in your defense.

Two Special Abilities: She is very good building traps and also very good with a crossbow.
Two Weaknesses: She has a incredibly hot temper and doesn’t get along very well with other people.
Physical Attributes: Of the Faireo branch of the Kintari people. Dark brown hair with reddish gold streaks, down to her shoulders and slightly waved, often in a bun or braid, tanned skin, a light spray of freckles across her nose, pale hazel eyes with blue and gold specks, slim muscular frame, 5’4”.
Personality: She has a red hot temper, Alyth is incredibly defensive and willing to do anything to protect her new “family”, and she is always on the lookout for things that might help the community, or that the people of the community might like.
Guardian: Her Guardian is a wolverine like creature she calls Torden. His power is light.

Two Special Abilities: He is extremely agile and gifted with any sort of blade
Two Weaknesses: Untrusting of new comers and can hold a grudge far too long.
Physical Attributes: Extremely tall at 6'5 and a little over 200 pounds, his frame towers over everyone he meets. His hair is a curly black, cropped short on the sides, but long on top to let the curls grow out. His eyes are a steely grey and sit under angled brows. His skin a tanned a golden color, though he does pale out quite a bit in the winter season.
Personality: Once a loving husband and father, he turned to stone when they caught the illness. He feels deep guilt for leaving them in such a state but he could not stand to kill them. He now keeps his vulnerable side locked away under an icy exterior. He can keep calm until he bursts into an unrelenting rage.
Guardian: A massive cougar that prefers to be called Topaz. She holds the power of fire.
