Yeah real lions don't have one cub... but real lions also cannot breed every 20 days. Or wander the savannah every day and impregnant 20 random ladies that will give birth in 3 days.
And statistically have a 50% mortality rate in their first year of life and up to 80% by maturity.

The wild has predators, starvation, disease, hostile male takeovers, and other things; they need to have large litters to ensure the future of the species in the hope that maybe a couple cubs per litter will survive.
On lioden we put a cub under a broodmother or give it a hug everyday and it's going to be fine.

Lioden needs some methods of controlling population to keep the (already pretty flooded) economy in check, this is one of them. Yeah, it sucks. Those 1 cub litters are very disappointing and annoy me too... but that doesn't make them any less helpful to the health of the game's economy.
