Sometimes we don't have enough time or are able to feed your lion something in time to gain the value from it (Aka honey combs, etc.) And you want to preserve it. Have like the monkey offer it for a certain amount and maybe it adds like a few more days onto it for freshness.

Here is a little snippet from wiki:

Salting is the preservation of food with dry edible salt. It is related to pickling in general and more specifically to brining (preparing food with brine, that is, salty water) and is one form of curing. It is one of the oldest methods of preserving food, and two historically significant salt-cured foods are salted fish (usually dried and salted cod or salted herring) and salt-cured meat (such as bacon). Vegetables such as runner beans and cabbage are also often preserved in this manner.

Here, to make it simpler, we have used salt before to preserve food for a little while alongside refrigeration, etc. The preserving salt when added to a certain item can make them have more days to be edible instead of expiring.

Like the monkey sells preservation salt that you add to the item that's about to expire, and it gives you another day or two.
I think it should only work on things that are about to expire, and due to it being salted, it should have a chance to have no effect at all, or a lessened one

I see it but it's dried food. And yea, Kamir. That could be good.

This one? I can see the difference as well, they just looked really similar to me. :) the only issue I see with this is over-using for egg yolks, or honeycombs, and stat giving items.

I would either put a cap on how many times you can put it on an item (like 1 time per say) or limit it only to actual carcasses. :)

It's a great idea though!

I think making them expensive would help cut down on the usage. (Even though most people that do store the egg yolks and honeycombs are people with $$$)
