As an auction thread owner, I often times edit/post new threads, and while writing isn't the most arduous of tasks, but when you are adding 5+ lions/esses to an auction thread or writing a detailed reply to a friend, it does take a bit of time, so when you accidental click your 'go back' button on your mouse, or accidentally close the tab, it is understandable extremely frustrating. Perhaps it is just me being very clumsy, but too many times I've lost a lot of work because I've accidentally done something that has sent me backwards to the last page.

As an example, earlier this morning I wrote a long suggestion topic about a mutation, this took me quite a while to do, but I didn't mind as I enjoyed researching in more depth a defect, and then writing down my ideas on how it could be implemented. Just as I was just finishing off the topic, I clicked the 'go back' button on my mouse, and lost it all. As you can imagine, it was more than frustrating, and I am not alone in experiencing this fustration.

What I am suggesting is for there to be a save button at the bottom of the 'post new topic' and 'create new message' thread, right next to the preview and post/send buttons. Clicking this button could bring up a small box in which you have two+ save slots that you can click to save your writing, or click to save over if you so wish too. Giving people access to two+ save slots would allow people the chance to save their thread while they are writing it, so that if they were to accidentally go back to the previous page, they would be able to reload their work from one of the two+ save slots. This leads into my next point.

With the save button, you would likely also need to have a load button next to it. Players can click this button to bring up a box that displays the save slots, and then click one of theses slots to load up the writing that was previously saved.

I do not know how long, or how hard it would be to implement into the game, though I have seen it in some online websites before. I also apologise in advance if this has been mentioned before. Keep up the good work devs!

...And finally I'd love to know if I left anything out, if any of it doesn't quite make sense or you just don't think it will work so that I can edit it and hopefully make my idea more refined. Sorry for the long read! :3

I'll support, but maybe don't limit it to just two save slots. It'd be better if we could save messages and posts as drafts and be able to access them via a "your drafts" page, and from there users can continue to edit or post their threads or messages. This way people aren't scrambling to make sure things get saved if those two save slots are full and the benefit would be of greater use to players.

(Or if I may suggest a handy alternative, in case this can't or won't be added. If you are a Chrome or Firefox user, go check out the Lazarus plugin! It's a definite lifesaver! It records your keystrokes and saves your writings, so if you lose something, you can click on the Lazarus icon in a message field where applicable and reload your writing in a breeze! Sorry I.E. and other browser users, I don't know if Lazarus is available to you).

@BrotherLion

Thanks for the suggestions! The only reason I said two is that having loads of saves could clog up Lioden and cause a lot of lag. I'm no website expert thought, so I'm not too sure if it would actually cause lag XD

As for Lazarus, I do indeed have Firefox, so I will check it asap! Thank you! :3

@Lunastar You're welcome (this game should really think about adding a quoting system too XD)! And I can't imagine it doing so? If the forums themselves don't cause lag (or at least I don't think they do), then saves shouldn't either. I think the forums and the game itself have their own separate databases within the server. Then again I'm no expert either so I could be totally wrong. But I just think people would like it better if there wasn't a limit to saving posts as drafts, but if one would be preferred to be added, I'd say maybe between 10 and 30. Nobody could have THAT many posts to save I don't think so it should be enough?

Also, welcome for that too! Can't tell ya how many times Lazarus has saved my hide on a few other sites haha.

I like this idea, but wouldn't copy and paste work just the same way? All you have to do is copy your entire post, and if something goes wrong paste it.

@Nova

The only problem with that is that you would have to copy and paste it every two seconds which is very tedious and it would be easy to forget, and if you are writing a message, you don't usually even think that you might loose the message until you've lost it. XD I do see your point though.

Usually to solve this problem, I would just preview it as it does kinda save that page. But this seems more efficient for WIPs. I hate having to use Google docs to save WIPs as it seems to change the layout completely. Support ;u;

I can relate to this but there's a much more easier solution than this, just use notepad. You can type everything you want and if you do happen to erase it all while you're copying it there's an undo option when you right click

@Lunastar

?
But you wouldn't have to keep copying and pasting
Just write the whole thing down, copy it once and paste it into lioden. I don't see the deal about notepad

@Hoka

I know what you are saying in regards to Notepad (I do have my whole auction thread template saved on it) but a lot of the time (especially with messages) you don't even think about the fact that you may loose it until it happens, especially if you are very active and write many messages per day. Also, having to save everything into Notepad would get very tedious after a while if you are a very active player like myself. This suggestion is just to help prevent the frustration and inconvenience of losing writing without making it tedious, or requiring the player to use other applications to save their work.
