Hard Mode is the name given to a certain set of restrictions relating to lineage some players put on themselves to make lioden harder for them.

Generally, players who describe themselves as having a 'hard mode' account have several rules. Roughly these are that all lions in their den must either be completely 'pure' in lineage (that is, there is no inbreeding, which is common on lioden) and that the only lions shown on the heritage of one of their lions must only consist of lions from their pride, no studding.

There is a clan which users pursuing this challenge can join called hard mode, so people may also say that they are on hard mode to signify membership of this clan. The hard mode clan page has a more in depth look at the rules, so here is a link if you want to learn more about it: Link
