Nightkit and Cloudkit were herded out of the den by their mother. Nightkit was so excited, she didn’t even complain that Icewing was treating them like newborn kits.
“Who do you think your mentor will be?” Cloudkit whispered to her sister.
“Hush!” Icewing interrupted. “It’s about to start!”
She was right.
“Nightkit, you have meet the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Nightpaw. Your mentor will be… me. I will pass on all I know to you.”

Mistystar gracefully leaped off Highrock. She rested her head on the newly-named Nightpaw’s head. In return, she licked the leader’s muzzle. Nightpaw quietly breathed, Thank you for this honor [also supposed to be italicized], and Mistystar nodded.
Willowshine took her place on the Highrock, beside Mistystar. “Cats of RiverClan, as you know, I won’t be around forever. So it is time I took on an apprentice. Your next medicine cat will be Cloudpaw.”
Mistystar said, “Cloudpaw, do you accept this offer? StarClan thinks you to be fit for it. Do you think yourself also?
“I do," Cloudpaw replied.
“May the good wishes of RiverClan go with you.”
