I'm not super sure if it would count as a mutation or a new marking so if this is in the wrong spot let me know but who would be up for some torti/calico lions?? In cats the marking carries something that makes the marking almost exclusively female and the males infertile, it could be neat to see that implemented into gameplay

I like the idea but maybe it would be three separate markings? Like black, white and ginger markings, in different spots and when combined they look like tortoise shell! I don't support the infertile or exclusively female though, because it's a real coat pattern and wouldn't make sense to do that (it's not a mutation or particularly rare irl).

@ Druid- calico is irl an exclusively female marking with some infertile males having it. tortoiseshell cats are also overwhelmingly female so that's probably why Gil said that. calico cats can only be female or infertile males because the white/orange/black coding genes are on two x chromosomes, so the only cats that can have all those colors have to have two x chromosomes.

Okay thank you, I think it'd be a marking not a mutation ^.^

I believe the newest piebald markings (frontal, sparse, I beleive those two) the black ones, work as a substitute, for this, no support! It’s more of a marking then a mutation.

As a proud tortie owner, I totally support this ancient suggestion. Also, fun fact:

Almost all torties are CHIMERAS!

Now THAT is amazing!

Also, male torties should be extremely rare, because in real life, they are.

I'm pretty sure it would be a mutation for males, not for females though, for them it would be a marking! Proud tortie owner here, support!

torties would be a cool mutation, though i think something more realistic would be a chimera!
i'm not too sure how this would work in game, but i'm thinking it'd be a lion with two completely separate appearances showing up in splotches like piebald, meaning they'd have 2 bases and up to 20 markings without having to purchase any slots. probably be really hard to implement, but a fun addition!

in response to flamingpsycho, very few torties are actually chimeras! color in cats is passed down through the x chromosome, meaning that if a female (xx) kitten had two parents with each base coat it would be a tortoiseshell. chimeras are very rare and there's so many torties/calicos very few could even be chimeras. male torties are usually the result of klinefelter's disease (where they have xxy chromosomes) rather than being a chimera, which is a low chance of happening and a lower chance of the conditions making a tortie.

Actually calico males have a very, very small chance of being able to breed and produce offspring. Very rare though since I heard its around a 1 in every 300 (or 3000 one of the two) calicos will be male. Either way though I support this very much.

@ocewolf yes, you are correct - however it is very rare and most of the time they end up sterile. calico males are the result of chimerism, which leaves them fertile!
the other explanation for male calicos (klinefelters syndrome) leaves the male completely sterile.

another person with a tortie here - support! Preferably as a marking, or better yet a mutation that covers markings like achromia and melanism. The thought of a tortie/calico pattern mixed in with like. hyena stripes and rosettes. i do not like that thing. ALSO! I would add the suggestion of torbies as well! theyre like tabby torties and theyre beautiful as well!
