A Breedable Adopts Thread

The bright, hot savannah beats down upon you as you walk through waist high grass, eyes trained on a small beacon of hope in the distance. You can almost feel the waves of cool wind blowing from its center.

Eventually, you reach the tiny watering hole, the grass slowly transitioning from a brittle yellow to a supple green. You drop down to your knees, splashing water into your face before taking a deep sip of the crystalline pool.

When you look up again, a strange creature is staring down at you, eyes curious. It seems to be some strange sort of canine, or maybe a hyena. It gives a small rasping “ARPH”, and bounces back onto it’s stone in the center of the watering hole, blinking down at you still.

Perhaps you should stay here to study these strange things, or maybe it would be wise to leave before they become aggressive. The choice is yours, the Crocutas will be here even if you choose to leave now.

Guidelines
- Wait until confirmation from me to send your payment
- Please do not harass me, it is OK to post once or twice asking about something but don’t spam it. I will get on when I can and reply.
- Please keep it civil amongst one another.
- Please do not freak out if you don’t get the Crocuta you want. There will be more, and if you really want that same Crocuta, you can order a custom.
- These are based on as close to real dog genetics as I could get, so please don’t treat them as if they are 100% fact
- These are based on genetics, so you might not get something that you want exactly out of a breeding. It is up to chance.
- These are all preset, so sometimes you will get visually identical Crocutas if they have the same genetic codes. This JUST MEANS that they have the same colors, they can be different genders and animals all themselves.
- Once a Crocuta is purchased, it is up to you to keep track of the actual image. I will keep a link to that image posted in your “Watering Hole”, but the actual image will not be posted again. The link will bring you to it, however.

Crocutas Explained
What is a Crocuta?
A Crocuta is a canine like creature that possesses many of the traits of a Hyena. Hyenas are similar to canines, but are not in the same genus. A Crocuta is something in between. They possess the bulky shoulders and ‘mane’ of sorts that a Hyena has along with the short bobbed tail. They, however, are long and slim, with slightly longer hind legs than front and a distinctly wolfish muzzle. Females stand between 2 and 2.5 feet tall at the shoulder, males between 2.5 and 3 feet tall. Females weigh in at about 60-80 pounds, males closer to 80-100. Males also possess a thicker neck and shoulders, along with extra fur around their throat and chest to protect during battles. They have 12 year life spans.

What about their Breeding Cycles?
Crocuta females can mate once every 2 years, beginning during their second year of life. They mature physically at 1 year old, but do not come into heat until they are 2. Every 2 days counts as a year, for our purposes.
Crocuta females will bear litters of up to 4 cubs, decided by a random number generator. They have a 1 year gestation period, and will then spend a year raising the cubs. 2 years after the breeding, they will be ready to breed again.
Crocuta males will get into fights for their mates every time a female is ready to breed. This has little consequence for our purposes, but they can become aggressive during this time.

Where do they live?
Crocutas live in close proximity to water. They are found typically near a watering hole in the savannah, surrounded by vast grasslands that allow them to hunt. They are small in numbers, however, as each watering hole can only support so many Crocutas without running down the natural prey and space.

What are their personalities like?
Each Crocuta has a very unique personality. They are very social creatures, thriving in a pack numbering 5-6 members. There are reports of packs that neared 20 in number, however this is extremely rare. Males have a tendency to be very aloof and haughty, showing off their brute strength to whomever cares to watch. They can be pushy and snappy, though most are quite amicable to humans and their counterparts until mating season comes around. Females are much calmer, though they too have their sassy moments. They are the matriarchs of each pack, though the males are larger and stronger it is the females who are intelligent and fast. They are the best at hunting and keeping an organized pack.

What our purpose with them?
Your purpose will be to study and learn about Crocutas! You will be able to breed with them and expand their gene pools, exploring what it means to be a part of their pack for real. For the most part, you will be working with a limited number of Crocutas, but eventually you will be able to add special “Insert” Croutas, or Croutas from different Watering Holes that are looking for new packs. They will help you to expand the genetics at your Watering Hole, as well as study the reactions of the rest of the pack members to a new Crocuta in their home.

Protocol
To begin your life as a Crocuta Researcher and Owner, you must first go to the Research Assignments station. There, you will be able to see all of the open Watering Holes. Each Watering Hole comes with 2 randomly generated Crocutas, each with their genetic code displayed. There will be 1 male, and 1 female. The Watering Hole capacity will be 10 Crocutas, and once you reach that capacity you will be unable to breed or buy any more in that particular watering hole. There will be an option to expand your Research Quota, and be the manager of more than one Watering Hole which is how you get more space.
Once you have decided which Watering Hole you wish to work with, you will have to pay a small Opening Fee, which covers the costs of travel to and from the watering hole and gear to begin your research etc. Simply put, it's the cost of the 2 Crocutas and the area.
Your Crocutas will start out at 2 years old, meaning you can begin breeding them immediately.
From there, you can customize your Crocutas by purchasing Dyes and Contacts from the Research Station. You can purchase "Insert" Crocutas from that area, and add them to your Pack manually that way, or you can breed and wait to see who shows up! If you're feeling really spunky, you can buy a Custom Crocuta, a Crocuta that is specifically spliced together by gene specialists for you specifically.
