Malestrom|3 years|Short Eared Owl|The Collier|Flying over: Aegolius|Mentions: [Open]

The wind was cool against her feathers. With steady wings, the Short Eared made the smallest of adjustments, flight pattern switching ever so subtly to angle herself downwards, towards the jagged, brown cliffs below. She had been flying for some time, and the crescent moon was high in the deep blue of the sky, soft clouds every so often obscuring its gentle glow.
"I'm not sure why you're leading me here." she mumbled to no one in particular, her head tilting to let her sharp yellow gaze peer at her stomach for a moment, where her gizzard seemed to be telling her this was the place to be. Perhaps however, that was just logic. The cliffs of Aegolius after all, were neutral lands. AS few owls cared to live in the desolate cliffs, they had been slowly taken over by the other raptors that hunted the same skies, vultures and eagles making their nests in the craigs.
Her thoughts of eagles and possibly running into a 'less than friendly' avian were shaken from her mind however, as she drew close to the earth, her head tilting and eyes dialating as she caught onto her quarry. With a flash of talons and a few rather unsightly stumbling flaps, she landed herself onto the cold stones, mouse in claw.
"Well, at least the trip wasn't a total waste." She muttered to herself once again. The days of solitude, while sometimes nice were starting to drain the owl who once spent every night with her kin. Blinking slowly, she hopped to a jutting stone, staying alert, but taking the time to quench her grumbling belly.

Itzal | The Navigator | 3 Years | Male | St. Aegolius Canyons | Malestrom; Open

Itzal's wings battered the air roughly as he lifted up above the dry air of the Aegolius Canyons. His wings were spread wide, catching whatever updraft they could, and he glided across the surface of the edges of the canyons, avoiding the main channels whenever possible. With nearly six months of living at the corner of the three lands, Itzal had experienced what he thought was quite enough flight time over these canyons. His deep brown gaze scanned the broken surface of the canyon, catching on pieces of small movement- a weed flapping in the wind, or a small dirt-devil raising up from the dry waste.
His excursions into the canyons had become more and more frequent in the past days, a fierce tug in his gizzard eased by the movement towards their shattered length. It never lasted as long as he wished it would, but sometimes that break from the forests of his home in Ambala was enough to ease his mind and gizzard for a small while. He was almost silent in his flight, the only sound he made caused by his flaps when there was a lapse in thermals. He was gliding along silently when he caught sight of another owl.
He was quick to drop down onto the ledge above her, bouncing a few times lightly to keep himself from stumbling and falling into an unsightly heap on the ground. He peered silently over the edge, accidentally disturbing a few small pebbles that tumbled over the cliff lip, bouncing down beside the other owl, though it missed her. He made sure his wings were slightly opened, ready to take flight if immediately needed. One never knew if an owl was friend or foe in these times.

Star|The Weather Interpreter|3 Years Old|Male, Red Owl(Tyto soumagnei)|Location- St. Aegolius Canyons|Mention(s)- Itzal, Malestrom

Star Chaser looked down at his tomache, as it let out a loud growl. Tuning his head back to the horizon before him, the tyto let out a sigh. Sometimes he seriously hated his gizzard.
Star had been flying for almost two days straight now, yes both night and day. His gizzard barely even allowed him to catch a mouse, before it started pulling him farther along.
The red owls eyes scanned the scenery bellow him, as it changed from the wooded vegetation of the Ambala forest and into the barren, rocky expanse of the Aegolius lands.
Star Chaser flapped his big wings, as a gust of air hit him from his side. Once he balanced himself again, he peared up as the moon, as it bathed every thing in a faint glow. There was barely a cloud in sight, Star clicked his tongue.
It might sound strange, but Star hatted flying in such calm skies. He felt that, the calmer the sky's were the more unpredictable they could be. At least when he was flying in a storm, he could read and predict even most of the air currents.
A sudden movement to his right, made the male tytos head snap in it's direction. As he watched, he saw a owl land close to another one that was already on the ground.
Star looked up at the sky's again, there was no other owl in sight. What was the chances, of three owls coming to one of the most desolate places in the known world? At the same time no less?
Curiosity pricked in his gizzard, or maybe it was just the pull that seemed to have intensified the closer he had gotten to the Aegolius canyon.
Folding his wings close to his body, Star Chaser made a nose dive straight down. Before hitting the rocky ground, the young tyto opened his wings and sailed the rest of the way. Landing with a few hops, on an adjacent rock ledge to the ones that the other two had landed on.
Star Chaser looked up and watched the two other owls with keen eyes.

Malestrom|3 years|Short Eared Owl|The Collier|Flying over: Aegolius|Mentions: Itzal

The mouse had just barley vanished down Mal's throat when she saw the pebbles land nearby, their sharp tang against the rocks startling her, feathers shrinking, then fluffing in a conflict of fight or flight. Hopping forward her head swiveled, wings flaring to make herself appear larger than she was. She had thought she heard something, but the fallen rocks made it clear she was not alone. For a moment she wondered if a stray vulture had wandered near, although she was sure she would have heard their wing beats against the still air. Craning her head upwards to the ledge however, she caught a flash of something brown.
"Oy! Her call was sharp, bold for a small owl alone.
"If you're looking to make an easy meal, I swear I won't go without a fight." Claws dug into the earth, bending ever so slightly in case she needed to make a fast getaway. Although she wasn't in a war zone, one could never be to careful. There was more danger than just other owls out there in the wide world. Or so she had been taught.
Her beak clicked a few times in tension, however as she gaze upwards at the figure she realized it was not some creatures fur, but feathers that loomed above her. Though from he change in vantage she could only see the top half of the bird, it was clear she was gazing at another owl, one she hadn't seen before.
"What the.." She couldn't help but mutter her thoughts aloud, blinking a few times rapidly to assess the situation.

Oriole Tracker, 2 Years Old, Female, St. Aegolius Canyons, Mentions: Malestrom, Itzal, Star

There was not much of a scent left, and any feather bits she had found were scarce and more or less incomplete bits of fluff. Still, Oriole was hoping to find something, if not her parents then a clue as to what had happened. She highly doubted that she was going to find them alive and well anymore, but as she soared over the barenness of the St. Aegolius Canyons Oriole spotted three owls along the canyons walls.
While she was curious about them she wasn't going to get close. However, she did fly closer and get a better look. Could they know anything about her parents? Eyeing them closer they didn't appear hostile or even connected to each other, in fact, the third one just joined. Oriole tilted her head, how strange, why would three random owls come together?
Perhaps they have their own reasons for being here as well, Oriole reasoned as she got closer. She decided to perch a little bit away from the group, so as to make an easy escape if necessary, but close enough to see and hear them.

Itzal | The Navigator | 3 Years | Male | St. Aegolius Canyons | Malestrom; Star

Itzal raised the feathers around his neck, cocking his head and letting out a small hoot, showing he was non threatening. Obviously, she was as startled and uncomfortable as he was, and that (probably) meant that she wasn't a danger to him- at least not immediately. He hopped closer to the edge, awkwardly, before spreading his wings and dropping off the edge of the cliff, making a large semi-circle before he came back around to her, this time low enough to land on her ledge. He made a bit of a messy landing, stumbling a few waddling steps forwards before stopping, stepping uncomfortably around. Owls weren't meant to be on the ground, he knew that well enough.

"I'm smaller than you," he commented calmly, tipping his head slightly, "I don't think that I would be able to eat you."

He studied her in silence for a few moments, before speaking again. "You're a short eared owl, right?" As far as he knew, Asio birds had no direct homeland, unlike the Tytos and their narcissistically named homeland. Many of his own kind, the Strix owls, lived in Ambala, but he was unaware of any allegiance that the Asios had to any one kingdom. "Where do you hail from?"

He was still unaware of the presence of the Tyto that was watching them, nor to the Aegolius flying in silence above him. He watched the female quietly, flipping his head to the other side.
They say to reach for the stars. I say to reach beyond them.

Malestrom|3 years|Short Eared Owl|The Collier|Flying over: Aegolius|Mentions: Itzal

At the other owl's words, Mal relaxed her posture slightly, feathers giving a shudder before settling back. Despite this, her eyes remained fixed upon the stranger. She noted his slight discomfort at moving on the earth, beak clicking in mild amusement. Unlike many owls, she had been born on the ground and while nothing beat the sky, she was a bit more relaxed than most when it came to 'walking.' As the stranger moved closer and the moon escaped from behind a patch of clouds, she could see more clearly. He was a Strix, though his full breed escaped her. When he spoke, her head bobbed slowly.
"Asio flammeus. From the Kingdom of Silverveil." Though she puffed up a little at her statement, she knew better than to show to much pride. The land was, after all, at war and no matter which Kingdom this owl came from, they had probably skirmished before. It would have been easy for her to lie, her breed often moving around and not staying to one place for long. However, despite her misgivings about Silverveil's actions, it had been her home.
'At least I'm not a Tyto or from Ambala.' She thought the words to herself, managing to keep the comment within her own mind. As much as Silverveil was stirring up trouble, the worst of the fighting seemed to be between the other two kingdoms.
"The name's Malestrom. Though Mal is easier on the beak." Her head tilted to the side, giving the other owl a look that clearly said, 'I told you mine, now for yours.' So wrapped up in the current conversation, she had let her attention slip, not hearing the telling signs of wings on the wind and claws on the earth.

Itzal | The Navigator | 3 Years | Male | St. Aegolius Canyons | Malestrom; Star; Oriole

Itzal gave a little clack of his beak at her comment about her homeland, and he waved his tail a little bit. "Better than a Tyto," he hummed, giving her a squinty eye smile. He raised up his feathers, shaking himself out a little bit and watching as a few of his weaker feathers fluttered down, taken by the wind. It was still a few months until his next molt, but some of his feathers had begun to wear already, despite his careful grooming. He nodded at her when she told him her name, settling down so that he was sitting rather than standing as awkwardly.

"No need for glares, Mal," the young male hummed again, turning his head to preen through a few of his back feathers. After a few runs through, he turned back around, and tipped his head again. "I'm Itzal," he said evenly, blinking at her. He, personally at least, had no quarrel with Silverveil, and he didn't view their owls to be much of a threat. Not like Tytos. He spread one wing, beginning to preen those feathers as well. "As for my homeland, I suppose you could say that I hail from Ambala."

He shrugged at that, going back to grooming his feathers. "Come from is a bit of a... strong term, however." He turned back to her, ruffling his feathers again before settling down more comfortably. "What brings you to the canyons? Silverveil is... ah bit of a flight from here, is it not? You'd have to cross the Barrens. I've only been there once, myself, but I don't plan on making that trip again. Those bloody rocklands aren't worth the trouble."

Oriole soaked in the information from her perch on the rock, having landed, and looked at the two owls that were currently talking to each other. She never really cared about the whole breed thing, she knew each was just as capable of great deeds whether they were evil or good depended on the individual performing them. However, she knew of the main stigmas like Tytos being pig-headed narcissists and so on. Though she'd never met one herself and therefore held no opinion one way or the other.
Oriole was relieved to see these two weren't huge owls, not that she would've been scared off, it would just make things difficult is she needed to fight or get away. Though, it appeared as though they were safe enough to be around for now, granted they didn't know she was there yet.

Star|The Weather Interpreter|3 Years Old|Male, Red Owl(Tyto soumagnei)|Location- St. Aegolius Canyons|Mention(s)- Itzal, Malestrom, Oriole

Star Chaser cocked his head, as the two other owls spoke.
Mal and Itzel. Star remembered their names, as he heard them with his sharp ears. The young tytos claws dug into the sandy ground under his talons, as he heard Itzel speak badly of tytos.
'Not all tytos are bad', Star Chaser wanted to call. He held back though and instead keeped on listening in on their conversation. He wondered why this Itzel had such a bad standing towards tytos, Star had meet some not realy bad, but stuck up tytos in his time growing up in the Tyto kingdom. Still, even if they were unfriendly, Star Chaser doubted that it was only tytos that could be such pricks.
Looking away from the pair, Star noticed another owl. It was sitting on a rock outcropping a bit above their heads. The young male fluffed his red plumage. Turning his light gray facial disk to hear the rest of the conversation, he was surprise that the two other owls had not noticed either him or the fourth owl that was perched on the ledge above their heads.
Flexing his muscles, Star Chaser halve hopped halve flew to the rock the other two were on. The young tyto male, made a not so graceful landing close to the Brown wood owl and the Short eared owl.
Looking at both of them in turn he opened his beak, "Hello", Star Chaser said. 'Original, very original Star', Star Chaser thought to himself.

Malestrom|3 years|Short Eared Owl|The Collier|Flying over: Aegolius|Mentions: Itzal, Star

A faint huff escaped Mal's chest as he hummed his words relaxed. Ambala. Her unofficial neighbor. Though the Barrens separated their Kingdoms, the two owl lands had their fair share of skirmishes. Yet this particular owl seemed less like a soldier and more like one who was merely caught up in the fighting. Perhaps he had fled, based on his way of speaking about the Kingdom. At his question however, she seemed to inflate with a slight, uncontrolled embarrassment.
"It's... She clicked her beak a few times. Truthfully, she had meant to hit Kuneer, by skirting through part of Ambala. However with the stirring in her gizzard and her lack of directional knowledge, the female had gotten slightly lost.
""A mix of things. Took a wrong turn around the edge of Ambala. Though I have always wanted to see these cliffs, so not a total waste of a trip. Her wings shifted up and down for a moment in a shrug.
"What about yourse-" before she could finish her question, the sound of wings entered her hearing and her head swiveled sharply, yellow glare returning. Another owl, a male had fluttered over, landing the same graceless manner as the other had. A Tyto, but the looks of him. At his greeting, she couldn't help but give a slight churl of laughter. Hello, it was so simple and straightforward. It was easy to tell this owl wasn't a threat, for the time being at least. However the sudden appearance of others had rekindled the paranoia the female had carried at Itzals entrance, and her head did a swift swivel, scanning the skies.

Oriole, 2 Years, Female, Tracker, Location: St. Aegolius Canyons, Mentions: Itzal, Star, Mal

Oriole sighed, is this why Tytos were seen as brash and pig-headed? Because they tended to jump into things without thinking them through? Well, whatever the Tyto's reasoning was for leaping without any care for tact it was now certain that the others would soon spot her as she could see the Short-Eared already peering around suspiciously.
There really was no point in hiding now she supposed, and with a huff she took once again to the sky. Unlike the others Oriole was much more confident in her landing and flying abilities, probably from growing up in the Beaks where she had to be vigilant at keeping track of the wind patterns or be flung against a rocky cliffside. Her size left little room for error where she was from and so she landed easily next to the group.
"Well, since Tyto rush in without knowing anything, just burst right on in I figured I might as well join the party. Hello, my name is Oriole and I've been stalking you for the past little bit," she said bluntly with a little bow to add flourish to her introduction.

Liliana|3 years|Northern Hawk Owl|Location: St. Aegolius Canyon| Walking around the old St. Aegolius orphanage|Mentions: open
Liliana looks around, marveling at how it looks within the caverns. She slowly works through the crags and crevasses to where the head of the orphanage would have stood. "I wish I could have met her." She said softly, remembering the old stories. She continued to look around and found the fleck deposits. She took one that she dug from the ground and stuck it in the wall.

Ramona | Female Tyto Rosenbergii | 1 yr, 5 months | St. Aegolius Canyon | Mentions: ----

Soft wing beats are the only noise beside the air because of the near dangerous height Ramona's flying at. She felt no need too be even remotely close too the ground right now, despite being closer meant she had a better view of the ground and, more importantly, who's on it. She's eyeing the clouds with disinterest, her mind making strange little stories of how they got their shape and size. The most fun one so far was that one of the smaller ones had been robbed of it's fluff and stripped bare.

She had to focus. If she messed up her current pace, she'd never get back too her nest. Not that she'd make it home in one night. No, it was much too far too fly across three entire kingdoms while avoiding the beyond. She'd make it too edge of Ambala if she was lucky. But that's not considering she'll get hungry. But that could be avoided if she hunted now and just carried it with her. I could drag her down, however.

She'd just nest here tonight. That's the easiest option. So she sweeps downward, stopping when she was maybe a hundred feet from the ground. Her eyes scanned the dead or dying trees nearby too land, all of them being either too weak or too shady. She kept flying, a bit further from her previous position. There were less trees, but the ones that were there were stronger. So she chose one too land on. It was blackened, seemingly burned, and leafless. Still the most stable, however.

She let a low sigh escape her, being able to finally rest. That was good for her. Relaxing was a necessity every once in a while. She looked up at the moon that was high in the sky, her eyes studying it. Her feet shifted under her, a small clank of metal sounded. The talons she had on were homemade. After all, the ones you could buy were rather expensive too trade for.

Malestrom|3 years|Short Eared Owl|The Collier|Flying over: Aegolius|Mentions: Itzal, Star, Oriole

Mal gave a faint chirup of surprise as another owl landed down by them. Her wings spread slightly, and she hopped backwards, eyes narrowing and her plumage inflating to give her a rather disgruntled appearance. The small tufts of feathers on her head, which had been laying flat were now noticeable, die to the excitement happening.
"Where are all you coming from!" Her voice was tinged with exacerbation, her heart pounding slightly. It had been far to long since she had been around this many owls, and such a variety at that.
At the buff fronted owl, Oriole, gave her small speech she clicked her beak a few times again.Stalking? It was odd to tell your quarry you had been following them, it didn't exactly breed trust. Granted, she could have been following any of them, but even still it made her feathers shudder slightly at the thought of being watched without her knowledge.
"Am I the only one who thinks this is all getting a bit, odd?" She swiveled her head to get a good look at them all, blinking slowly her wings still at the ready, talons still curling against the stone.
