**Quick Note: I did not draw any of the art, but I am allowed to post them: proof

Hi there! So my friend, Tougal was creating an original character for their own personal use and both of us were so excited by the final result we decided to make it a closed species! All art belongs to them and the information was brainstormed through multiple PMs by both of us. We have decided to call them Piraniths! :D

piranith_by_commissionstougal-dcj3j3j.png

Physical Characteristics: Large, reptile like head and two legs with large claws that act more like hands to grasp/grab onto things, extremely long tail, around 8 tentacles for increased grip, their eggs sometimes stick onto these causing discomfort and predators often target them ; loss or inability to use these decreases their mobility. Fins are actually iridescent and when in the sun, can be see through. Coat is smooth to the touch, comprised of very small scales!

Size: Estimated to be as big as some draft horse breeds ; at the present time, NO DATA has been collected about an exact range of height or length. Surprisingly light and flexible for their size, these creatures have no problem navigating cramped spaces.
→ Adults would be this size in comparison to humans.
→ Eggs would be this size compared to adults and humans.

Coloring: Ranges from very muted greys to soft cremello or off-white ; rarer colors would be cool-toned blacks, red tones, maroon and some purples, greens (basically strong value colors) ; Limit of 6 colors
common___rare_saturation_by_commissionstougal-dcj6ym0.png

Markings: Big, bold markings have a limit as smaller markings pass easier, young Piras have a more blotchy looking appearance than the adult versions ; coloration changes as they age

Behavior: Can be found in small groups of 1-4 as being alone increases their risk of predation due to their long tails; during breeding season, they usually split off into smaller subgroups to hunt and search for mates
Distribution: Semi-aquatic and can be found sunbathing on the shores of beaches or in the water
Diet: Mainly seals and small whales, manta rays, fish, squid, etc.
Reproduction: Every wet season, they migrate to deeper waters and gather together for a big celebration. Here they feed mostly on small fish and other sea life before choosing a partner to woo / be wooed. Visually sexually monomorphic and show no coloration or other sex differences ; they are however hermaphrodites and their role during mating is flexible - bidirectional sex changers. Once Piras have chosen a mate to perform for, both attempt to wow the other in hopes that one will be impressed enough to accept the difficult task of being the carrier of the eggs.

For the rest of the wet season and halfway into the dry season, the carriers will be pregnant. There will be a short breeding cooldown before they can reproduce again, using this time to incubate surviving eggs and feed themselves.

Eggs are carried in a discreet pouch although most eggs actually fall out as not much care is given to the young in the early stages of development. It is only when the eggs start to become larger in size that the Pira carrier displays maternal instincts to protect and guard the remaining young. The maternal instincts are so high at this stage that the adult Piranith becomes extremely territorial and aggressive; movement is also lessened at this stage. In most recorded instances, only 4 eggs are cared for at a time. It is predicted that around ½ of these eggs (max 2) will be able to make it to maturity and survive to hatch.

Human Intervention/Effects: Their recent discovery has fascinated researchers who have spent some time observing and recording data about this species. To humans, these creatures remain neutral and neither seek out or avoid human presence; however, some have demonstrated a certain affinity to human caretakers and are able to be bred for their cooperative nature.

Individuals shown here are not available for yet

These have some of the more common colorings »

Here is one with more contrast (would be considered rare) »

sealbrown_yellows_by_commissionstougal-dcj4c4z.png

Customs would have some limitations on the amount of markings and/or colors, and aren't going to have mutations as that would be limited to breeding only. Breeding is planned but would not start any time soon.

So for the interest check, it would help us a lot if anyone would be willing to answer these questions! :D
✎ Would you be interested in owning one?
✎ How much would you be willing to pay for a flat sale or auction / special? How much would a custom cost?
✎ If people can put up their Piras for stud prices, what should be the maximum they can set for a common or a special?
✎ Should there be an explore option for people to find random eggs or gain new breeding traits for their existing Piras? (Would be once a day - every few days)
✎ Any other comments or suggestions? We'd love to hear them! ^^

These are super badass but I also feel like I have seen adopts already created on here that look similar in body shape and style?

Edit; Here are a couple posts that I know for sure about;
Ekaises
Dragon Creature Interest Check

I know that there are more than likely plenty of adopts and species going around the world that look similar to other's art, I have just personally been seeing a lot of art threads being reported/shut down for what seems to be crazy reasons in my eyes and I just don't want anyone to get in trouble for their awesome art :/

Not trying to be rude at all, because I love anything dragon related! And the fact that the tail is longer and fan-like and the added whiskers. I will let other players throw their input at you though

Thank you so much ~
And it's not rude at all! I do know what you're talking about, but I feel there are some differences aside from the overall anatomy to look at such as fins and tentacles. ^^ Maybe we could look into asking the creators of the other species about their thoughts.

So, I've never owned a species before, so I'll try not to lowball price guesses Firstly, I just want to say that I have a huge weakness to aquatic/semi-aquatic species - the bigger, the better. May be why I adored the Ghost Leviathans in Subnautica

They're gorgeous, and I love the tentacles and the fan-like tail, it already gives the impression that they'd look amazing swimming around.

✎ Would you be interested in owning one?

I'm not entirely sure what I'd do with one, except admire it, or try to sculpt it whenever I had time, but I'd definitely be interested. This would be down to the fact that I've never owned this sort of thing before - but I'd be willing to make an exception. Personally, I like it where it's optional to take part in extra things - I know some species where you have to do art for it, and have to do "X,Y, Z" things.

✎ How much would you be willing to pay for a flat sale or auction / special? How much would a custom cost?

Art takes time, so I'd be willing to pay some GB for it - I've seen other species have auctions with autobuys, so you could always go down that route and adjust prices to the interest.

As for customs, what if the price is based upon existing ones (albeit more expensive) i.e mainly common colours/markings would be cheaper than a custom containing "rare" markings and colours?

✎ If people can put up their Piras for stud prices, what should be the maximum they can set for a common or a special?

I think it'd be fine like LIoDen - no maximum, if people think it's a fair price, then they'll pay ^^ That way, the market influences, and if people are getting no interest, they'd have to lower their price.

✎ Should there be an explore option for people to find random eggs or gain new breeding traits for their existing Piras? (Would be once a day - every few days)

Again, like Lioden doesn't allow finding cubs in explore, I don't think eggs should be found there - as the creators, you still need to be able to make money! I think it'd be fine for gaining traits, though, or even items to make it more likely to pass a marking/base? Or just any item, really.

✎ Any other comments or suggestions? We'd love to hear them! ^^

Overall, whilst I am very in-experienced with species, I love the written detail put into them, and I love how they look.

@WisherWasher (I’m SO sorry I spelt it wrong) ; Thank you so much! I’ve been thinking of doing those “do xyz for a chance to win” or something of that sort but I don’t know how to organize that yet haha. All your ideas and suggestions were very helpful! :D

Would you be interested in owning one?
I certainly would! They're cute and good quality. ^^ The information for them being so detailed and thought out is a big plus. All too often I get involved with a closed species only for the creator(s) to go inactive, so hopefully these would stick around!

How much would you be willing to pay for a flat sale or auction / special? How much would a custom cost?
Hmm, not really sure; I'm not great with pricing. I would say around 10-15gb as a flat sale, if they're special in some way, 20-25gb? This might be high, but they're really neat haha.

If people can put up their Piras for stud prices, what should be the maximum they can set for a common or a special?
This would really depend on what the price of owning one would be, so a bit of a tricky question. Also I'm not to sure what would be fair, again lol. I would say no more than 10% of the value; like if the stud cost 10gb, have the stud price at 1gb max.

Should there be an explore option for people to find random eggs or gain new breeding traits for their existing Piras? (Would be once a day - every few days)
Hmm, I know it is a lot of work to have an exploring feature with interactive adopts, and it can cause the creator(s) to inactive like I mentioned before. If you think you could handle the extra work, then by all means! Sounds like fun. Maybe have random eggs as an extremely, extremely rare outcome to save you some trouble.

Any other comments or suggestions? We'd love to hear them! ^^
I really like that they come on a ref, but also sending a transparent version after being purchased would be a good idea! Shading like with what you did for my commission would really make them pop, but that's totally up to you!

✎ Would you be interested in owning one?
Yessss, 100% yes, multiple even!

✎ How much would you be willing to pay for a flat sale or auction / special? How much would a custom cost?
If you do auctions maybe start them at 1gb for common and 2-5 for specials/muts. Flats could be 5-8gb.
Customs should be atleast 10gb.

✎ If people can put up their Piras for stud prices, what should be the maximum they can set for a common or a special?
Studs should be SB for commons, maximum price should be 250sb as they're not the creator of the species, you could have a base price for breeding be 250 + the player price. Specials should be from 250sb up to 500sb, maybe 1GB if its a really rare mutation.

✎ Should there be an explore option for people to find random eggs or gain new breeding traits for their existing Piras? (Would be once a day - every few days)
Yes, cool down should probably be once per week~

✎ Any other comments or suggestions? We'd love to hear them! ^^
Not really suggestions but I'll definitely share these with my friends cus goddamn they're cool, adorable and I want some xD

@Cerb

aaaa thank you so much! All this is really helpful! and we appreciate it so much <3
We have most of the explore option thought out and it's just preparing everything for it! I'm certainly up for the challenge :o!

We also thought the chance of finding an egg is rare as very often for the Piranith - the eggs are eaten by predators and such when they fall out!

hmmm - I'll certainly take that into consideration!
thank you Cerberus!!

✎ Would you be interested in owning one?
>I've never owned any kind of species or dealt with these kinds of things, but I'd definetely give it a try if I could

✎ How much would you be willing to pay for a flat sale or auction / special? How much would a custom cost?
>Welp, I'm an absolute dumbass when it comes to pricing lmao but I think it can be worth a handful of GB tbh, it's so well done and thought out!!

✎ If people can put up their Piras for stud prices, what should be the maximum they can set for a common or a special?
>The LD studding mechanics are really efficient, maybe something with the same idea but with the tweaks for it to work better with the species?

✎ Should there be an explore option for people to find random eggs or gain new breeding traits for their existing Piras?
(Would be once a day - every few days)
>Yes! That's an awesome idea! It says that most of the younger eggs get lost in some way or another, surely other Piras might find and adopt those?

✎ Any other comments or suggestions? We'd love to hear them! ^^
>OMG they're so cute I wanna pet all of them :D
I love their tails and little tentacles, just so bootyful I think their behavior and the way they breed is very clever!

@Emerald ; Thank you so much for your advice! It was extremely helpful! :0 We has some ideas about the studding too, but it wasn’t really discussed in depth between the two of us yet. It’s really helpful to hear other opinions! ^^

@Eme my sweet child <3

Thank you so much! Piranith is a... modification? of a reaLLY long word Cocoat found lmao
The reason why a lot of them die besides predators - is just for the fact that piras in general don't want to be burdened by carrying the eggs, but yes sometimes very caring ones do try to adopt them but that's incredibly rare!
Not only that - but the amount of time Piras spend by the bottom of the sea is little to none - so there's that as well ^^''

(pet them all)
Thank you and everyone else for the encouragement as well!!!!

✎ Would you be interested in owning one?
I very much would! I love the ocean-fantasy feel they have to them and I could see myself riding them into battle~
✎ How much would you be willing to pay for a flat sale or auction / special? How much would a custom cost?
Depending on the design you go with(full body or the current ref style examples you have up) I'd say 10-15GB for more common designs in terms of flat sale/buyout and 20-25GB for more complex designs/mutations in terms of flat sale/buyout. A custom could range anywhere from 10-30 depending on the complexity of the design wanted
✎ If people can put up their Piras for stud prices, what should be the maximum they can set for a common or a special?
Anywhere from 1-5GB I believe
✎ Should there be an explore option for people to find random eggs or gain new breeding traits for their existing Piras? (Would be once a day - every few days)
I've never been big on the whole explore thing for adopts so that's a no from me ^^'
✎ Any other comments or suggestions? We'd love to hear them! ^^
Breeding Suggestion(because sometimes these take up a lot of work and can become overwhelming):
Maybe make the breeding cool down time a bit longer, perhaps 10-15 days? The egg hatching wait doesn't have to be that long, but again I know that sometimes the breeding factor that some adopts do can take up more time than just coming up with new designs for the adopts itself

Thanks BatMan! ^^ I agree with your points you made. 10-15 days sounds like a good cooldown period and it would give us time to work on things as well. :D
