Recently I’ve noticed some really old threads near the tops of the forums. I think people probably reply to them on accident, but then the thread’s more visible, and more people post not seeing the original date, until there’s a bunch of replies to a sales post when the OP deleted their account more than a year ago.

What I’m trying to get at is, is there anything that can be done about this? I don’t know if reporting the thread is appropriate, but it just seems silly to have an abandoned post from 2017 on the first page.

(Also is necroing things against the rules or just bad etiquette? Most people I’ve seen are pretty strongly against it.)

Hello!

At this time, bringing back old topics to life is not considered to be a breach of our rules, especially considering that we have the "Bump thread" button. :)

Just for future reference - you can always ask rule related questions at the Modbox to have a Moderator reply back to you with an accurate answer. <3

Hope this helps!

It's not against the rules, and sometimes there's nothing wrong to post on old topics - like suggestions and discussions sometimes dont have any replies in a while but that doesnt mean they're closed/not active anymore - just nobody posted in a while, it doesnt mean the topic is abandoned just because it was created a while ago.

For example: some of my suggestion topics are from way back in 2016. They sometimes go for months without new replies but it doesnt mean they're abandoned - just people dont have anything new to add to comments. I still bump them to get new supports etc.
Same with old sales topics, if the user is still active, they could just be reusing their old sales topic and thus, bumping it up for people to see.

I'd also like to add that old, inactive thread as very often deleted by Moderators, so this shouldn't be an issue. :)

Alright, thanks everyone! Just got a little confused (& thought the modbox was just for exploits or rule breaks, oops!)
