Hello! I am interested in clean breeding and I was wondering if anyone had a guide or could give me any tips. I understand the basis of it but would like to have some help if anyone is willing. Thanks in advance!

The best way to get some pretty clean lions would be to have a clean king of your own and thoroughly check every lion(ess) involved in your project. Usually, your best bet is to focus on chased lionesses as they can be a valuable asset in providing pretty traits without soiling your clean lineage. It's important to remember that even when a lion is clean, any heritage they have can become a problem if another lion may share the same great-great-great grandparent or something of the like.

I'm sure you know that 'Clean breeding' means no inbreeding, but in case you didn't know, many people also deem a lion(ess) to be dirty if they have one of the 'big four' in their lineage. These four lions are: Keyser Soze, The Savannah Prince, Hot Hot Tater Tot, and Boombah, so keep in mind to check for any of these names regardless of whether or not there are any instances of inbreeding in a lion's heritage (there most likely will be as the vast majority of lions on Lioden with decent amount of heritage are related to at least one of these four males).

When regarding clean kings, it is important to remember that lionesses without heritage cannot be sex-changed. To get a clean king that's not a mundane rolled king, you can: Use the oasis to edit a rolled king, use marking/base/mane applicators on a rolled king, king a male with some heritage (albeit clean heritage), or clean replace your king (what I would try to do).

If you want to have a stellar king with clean heritage, you can always focus on making any male (or changeable female) into what you want while ignoring heritage entirely for the time being. Once you have your male with perfect looks (ignoring mutations and stats as you will not be able to keep those in the replace), king him and find any clean male (or changeable female) to replace once again while keeping the looks you added to the dirty temporary king.

May is the key month for getting adolescent males without heritage via V'kai, an NPC for that event. Those event males have a chance to come with a mutation, making them a prime and favored candidate for kinging while keeping a previous king's looks. Keep in mind that these May males are not too likely to have a mutation, so it's a good idea to get your hands on a MOD Primal during this event if you want your future beautiful king to have a mutation (yes, you can always look for a clean mutie to replace your dirty pretty boy, but clean muties always tend to carry a hefty cost)

When it comes to forced retirement of your clean pretty king, you can always simply replace him while continuing to use your pretty design, but it can be challenging if you want him to maintain a passable mutation. Because you will be focusing on clean breeding, soiling your line shouldn't be too much of an issue if you king one of his cubs, but RNG can't always be relied on to give you a mutie at the right time. Of course, this being January, you can always grab a couple MOD Primals either with your event currency or at a cheaper GB rate than the rest of the year, and hang on to them for future use. Now, if you don't have a MOD, or the MOD for the mutation you want is too expensive, you might need to place your trust in your king passing his mutation. If you breed often, and your mutie king sires a couple dozen cubs, it's likely that at least one will inherit your king's mutation. If you have a second account (you are allowed 2 and no more) that you don't mind allowing to go inactive, I advise freezing the first mutie your king sires on that secondary account. Even if your king sires a mutie when he is just 4 years old, you may think he has plenty of time to sire more, but that might never happen. That one mutie that he sired when he was 4 may be the only one he ever passes his mutation onto, so would you rather the cub be frozen and only age a couple months (pending how often you roll your secondary account) between cubhood and when you decide to ready it to become king, or grow old or possibly useless due to being born and kept as a female? It's always best to plan for the worst in cases like this to guarantee yourself to be able to maintain your king's mutation if that's something you want to do.

Now, if you want your king to have a mutation that is not passable such as Polycaudal, this comes with a challenge. The only mutations that you can apply to your king are Piebald/Patches, and plain Primal, so applying the mutation will be out of the question. The best way to maintain this mutation would be to find a clean female (or changeable male) and breed her using Lion Scrotums with plenty of time to birth a mutie before your king retires, freezing one that may be born early.

In short, the key aspects of clean breeding are inspection, organization, patience, and preparing for the future.
