I would say if you're enjoying the game and have enough time for 2 accounts then you may as well make your side account as early as you can. It means effectively double earnings in events, and if you find it's a drain on your resources with things like food/toys/etc you can always keep it basically empty and just use it as an overflow from your main account, or whatever works best for you.

In general the things that turn out to be the best to buy and sell later are things like breeding items - so the crunchy worms from Nirah's shop during this event are very useful. Shadow of death (hell shop) and angelic blessing (heaven shop) are useful throughout the year too, so prices on those tend to be good-ish.

Other things like some of the apps can also be profitable, but it can be tricky to work out reliably in advance which ones will stay popular and sell the best. Especially since it can depend on things like future valuable bases that haven't been released yet. If those happen to be in the same genetics category as existing base apps then those particular base apps often increase a lot in value, but obviously it's pretty much impossible to know which ahead of time!

And of course it's all a bit of a gamble, things don't necessarily resell as well one year as the year before - there are never 100% guarantees. So to some extent I would spread out your spending, rather than putting all your eggs in one basket :)
