As I stated in my Beetle Leaderboard post, I really enjoy battling with my beetles. However, I was surprised to see in this month's poll that many people DON'T battle their beetles at all, and it made me start to wonder how they could be included in competitions to boost their beetles' stats, too. (I like people to feel included!)

Before I launch off into my other proposals, I would like to humbly suggest that a basic tier system be enacted for all beetle competitions, including those I'm proposing in this thread, and I feel this could be organized in one of two ways:

1. By rarity (Common, Uncommon, and Rare). All of these beetles have the same number of starting stats, but skillful breeding practices, training, and competing give hardworking players an earned advantage. Personally, I favor this style (this would also pair nicely with a Leaderboard, if I may be so bold as to plug my suggestion a second time!), but I'd like to hear others' thoughts on the matter.

2. By stats as we do during the Arena event for our pride males. I would also like to propose that, if this were the way tiers were chosen, that higher tiers yield better/more rewards, as they require more effort for the player to achieve.

With that said, I had a few ideas about how we might expand the number of competitions our beetles could engage in. My first thought might be a bit frivolous, which I suppose is only fitting during the Aphrodisia event: would it be possible to add a Conformation competition function to Lioden? I thought this style of competition could revolve around three additional Conformation stats, for instance, Balance, Movement, and Charisma. This might appeal to players that aren't as interested in violent events. Some are Battle Beetles and others Beauty Beetles? I think it sounds like fun!

I also like the idea of single-stat competitions, and I wonder if we took inspiration from the Training Grounds for these three by adding a Lifting competition that focuses on the Strength stat, a Climbing competition for the Endurance stat, and a Ground Race for the Speed stat. I know I try to balance the stats of my beetles when I'm training, but some have noticable strengths, and it might be fun to capitalize on that. If people really embrace this idea, perhaps each type of beetle, based on its conformation and natural behavior, could have slight bonuses in one or two types of competition (Battle, Conformation, Lifting, Climbing, and Racing). I've played other games based on this basic framework, and it seemed like an intuitive system to me.

Thanks for taking the time to read this to those of you who are still here. Love it? Hate it? Meh? Please give me some constructive feedback!

It would be nice if their was something you could do with female beetles besides breeing too! Honestly beetles in general need a whole new rework to have more to them and more of a reward for using them.

Like, beetle battles. Yea, a whole herb or 5 SBs SOMETIMES. I wouldn't feel very motivated to do it either.

I agree. I still train and fight my beetles, but this would make it much better. Half the time I just eat the beetles for negative karma c-c

I'm glad you like the idea! I'd be curious to see if this would energize the beetle market, too...

I'm here for anything that involves doing more with the beetles than just adding new species, support

Hi! I support this because I trained my cerambyx cerdo beetles loads and they were getting to like 35-40 stats but I gave up. I was going to sell the high stats larvas but nobody wants them so now I breed them, but I don't train with sb any more or anything :( I hope people get excited for beetles again with your suggestion!

Thanks! I'm starting a project with my friend to breed gryllotalpa africana so maybe I'll have really high stats beetles again when this hopefully gets put in the game :)

I hope do, too... I just keep plugging away trying to bump up the thread as much as I can, but I'm typically only playing on Sundays. Let's hope it starts to gain traction with other stat breeders/beetle fans like us!

I definitely think female beetles need a bigger role! Maybe the females can be the "beauty beetles"? Or a PVP game where you can race them, have a rock lifting or climbing competition to earn SB or items as well as another way to increase beetle stats without having to fight each other.

From Terminix, "In the case of the American Burying beetle... the males will locate a carcass at night. This type of beetle... looks primarily for small birds and mammals. Males and females will fight to see which ones get the carcass, which is then moved to a new location and buried.
To move it, the beetles flip onto their backs and use their legs to walk the carcass down their ranks to the new site, much like a conveyor belt. This strange behavior allows them to easily move a food source that is up to 200 times their own weight."

Maybe during night time you could send your beetle out to scavenge and they can bring back items or small carcasses!

Ooooooh: a female-only twist! I LIKE that, Rosellea! You're also perfectly describing what I was envisioning for the alternative events.

Your quote and scavenging idea are brilliant! I especially enjoy the real-life behavior mirroring and the incorporation of an aspect of current gameplay/Lioden culture in a new way. Fantastic idea!

May I quote/credit you and add your ideas to my original post?

I would like to see beetles studs and reverse breeding for female beetles, I have some studs who are quite popular with the lady beetles of their species. I admit though, I have won herbs, SB, and beetle slots, but more can be done for battle beetles.
