Your February Survival Guide

Oh boy, it’s time for February! The month of flirting with lionesses named Nintendo 3DS or Pringles Can (I'm not that funny, I know). February is a bit confusing, with all the hype around it and all the desire to collect as many heart shells as possible. This is a guide to maybe explain some stuff, get you to wrap your head around it and maybe even make a profit!

Flirtingbanner.png

This guide is intended to be a more short, concise guide than the wiki, as well as offering player advice. As such, it doesn’t cover every single detail, and has a lot more player recommendations. If you’re looking for just the plain, unadulterated info, I recommend checking out the Wiki's Page on the event! If things seem overexplained or obvious, you can skip that part, I just tried my best to make this accessible to newer players so things may come off as obvious to newer ones.

PREP AND GENERAL ADVICE

Considering the event starts the day this was posted, there’s not too much you can do in general preparation now. Since a lot of event encounters gain you heart shells (February’s event currency), it’s definitely recommended to stock up on energy; meaning this is a perfect time to use your energy items! Red Bulls, Roasted Lambs and Meat Pies are perfect for this! Red Bulls and Roasted Lambs increase your energy regeneration for 8 hours, and Meat Pies completely refill your energy upon consumption! The only problem is, they’re hard to obtain in February, as demand for these items are high. Demand drives up the prices, possibly to the point that the returns you’re receiving from these items isn’t worth it, so unless you have some in reserve these items can be dubiously viable to recommend.

Do you know what energy generating item isn’t hard to obtain, however? Bone marrow. Bone marrow can be bought at monkey business for 80sb, and regenerates 20 energy. Granted, they can only be used once a day, but energy is energy.

Other than using items, the only thing I can recommend is setting a timer for every 2 hours and 30 minutes. That’s how long it takes for your energy bar to regenerate to full, if you keep your king fed. Keep him full, that’s another important one.

SHOPS & GOALS

February has two shops, and two goals for unlocking them too! The Flirt Shop, and The Slap Shop are where you’ll be going to use up your heart shells, both unlocked from successfully flirting with lionesses or slapping away other males respectively. Don’t worry, this’ll be explained a little later. Let’s start out with the Flirt Shop!

Flirt Shop, Tier One
Tier One is the first tier unlocked, then tiers proceed to unlock as more points are earned towards the total. Tier One is a little lacklustre in comparison to the tiers to come, but that doesn’t mean it’s horrible. It has some admittedly, quite pretty decors, though it’s functional items are ones that are easy to get in explore and aren’t that great anyways. I’d recommend only buying things from this tier if you like some of the decor for personal use; decor doesn’t really tend to sell well unless it’s special in some way. If you’re more into profit, I’d recommend waiting for later tiers.

No featured items, as nothing is that impressive

Flirt Shop, Tier Two
Tier Two is where things start to ramp up, with some more pretty decors, background and decent functional items. Probably the best place to spend some of your leftover Heart Shells at the end of the event, but I don’t really recommend anyone spend all their money here. These things can sell, but not as well as some of the later items.

LeopardOrchid.png
Leopard Orchid
Lets you claim a lioness automatically. I recommend getting one for an encounter at the end of April, unless you’d rather shell out 2gb for automatic claiming.

BaobabFruit.png
Baobab Fruit
Extends your lionesses heat by one day. Occasionally used to keep a lioness on hold for breeding, though not often as you can also just send them off to a side account and not rollover on said side account.

GrainOfParadise.png
Grain of Paradise
Guarantees 2 cubs in your next breeding. Sounds great, however a better, yet more expensive version appears just the next tier down.

Flirt Shop, Tier 3
Arguably the best event shop in the entirety of Lioden. I’m not joking. With two of the best utility items in Lioden and a bunch of cool bases, manes and markings. This is why February is considered one of the best events on Lioden. Bases and such won’t be mentioned; as they have their own section.

YohimbeBark.png
Yohimbe bark
Shortens a lionesses breeding cool-down by one day per bark. Highly desired in leopon or tigon breeding.

BuffaloScrotum.png
Buffalo Scrotum (aka, buffy balls)
Guarantees a 3 cub litter. One of the two most desired and sold items during the February event. Often referred to as buffy balls.

Slap Shop, Tier One
Tier one of the Slap Shop works similarly to the Flirt Shop in terms of being unlocked, and once again, the shop is a little lacklustre in comparison as to what is unlocked later. Once again, a few utility items for stats, though it’s mostly, admittedly cool, decor. I’d recommend buying any decor that looks cool to you, but if you’re looking for profit, I’d once again recommend waiting.

No featured items, as nothing is that impressive

Slap Shop, Tier Two
This tier is entirely decor and backgrounds. Once again, buy them if you want them, wait if you don’t.

No featured items, as nothing is that impressive

Slap Shop, Tier Three
This tier has a couple of event battle beetles, one utility item and some marking applicators. While event battle beetles are more of a niche, you have a decent chance with selling marking applicators. However, the big bucks are in Lion scrotums.

lionscrotum.png
Lion Scrotum
Gives a lioness a 25% to pass her mutation as long as there’s no outside requirements. Highly sought after in breedings of mutations that don’t naturally pass (I.E, dwarfism). One of the most wanted items from the February event.

HOW TO OBTAIN CURRENCY

There are two ways to get Heart Shells; through flirting and slapping, and exploring. Exploring is self explanatory; respond to the explore encounters served up to you, so I’ll go more in depth about the other way, flirting and slapping.

Flirting and slapping is a February exclusive feature, found by going to the event page. Every 15 minutes, you can attempt to flirt with another player’s lioness, who is likely named something odd, like ham sandwich or stinky nips. There is three options on what will result from this. Either you aren’t caught by the lionesses owner, giving you +1 heart shell and adding +1 flirt point to the total, the lionesses owner tries to slap you but they fail, giving you +1-3 heart shells and +1 flirt points, or the lionesses owner slaps you successfully, giving them +1-3 heart shells and +1 slap points.

BASE SHOWCASE

For this section, I made a Lion design with each base exclusive to February, feel free to take inspiration from them or even just straight up use them. Beware though, I did not design these lions on the basis of them being achievable. The images are clickable, they'll take you to those lions in the wardrobe.

Ardor
7NUMxoe.png
Ardor is probably my favorite base out of the lot. The colour is appealing, yet still subtle enough you can shove it on a highly marked lion and have it look nice still. Also the factor of a combo base.

Blush Rose
PrnAvuA.png
Blush Rose is nice, though not my favorite. It works well on a lot of designs, though personally I'm not a fan of brown bases.

Cherry Blossom/Maroon
fj9K6J0.png
Cherry blossom is like a slightly darker Ardor. Great if you want pink but still edgy lions.

Flamingo
AiDYRZw.png
This is the new base, and even though I've only gotten a little time with it, it's pretty great in my opinion.

Hematite
UACNiFm.png
Hematite is kinda just grey. Great if you want that, not so great if you don't.

Kunzite
UPNZUWa.png
Kunzite is a nice, colourful base, great for colourbombs. I recommend trying to show off the base to the best of your ability when designing for it.

Manakbir
OAhIPeP.png
I've struggled to form an opinion around Manakbir, I guess I just don't like it. Can definitely be used well, though.

Merlot
xAU7Th1.png
Merlot is pretty, but hard to use. It's a struggle to find anything that goes with it. If you want to use it, I recommend spending a good amount of time trying things out in the lion wardrobe.

Peach
gTs02L9.png
Peach is pretty, but again, deceptively hard to make look nice. I recommend the same as listed above again.

Rhodonite
kBfgupv.png
I really like this one, it's sort of a grey-black-pink sort of thing. Weirdly didn't find this one hard.

Rough Ruby
iq90jP1.png
Rough Ruby is like Merlot, but in my opinion, looks better and is easier to work with. Sorry Merlot fans.

MONKEY CRAFTING

The Monkey Business Crafting uses these gems as it’s crafting materials this month: Amethyst, Dioptase, Garnet, Hematite, Kunzite, Rhodonite, Rough Ruby, Tanzanite, as well as speckled pigeons, which are only dropped in the month of February. Bases, Manes and Eye colours are available to be crafted with your gems, as well as Dove Feast with 10 of those Speckled Pigeons. There’s also some cool backgrounds and decors available to craft too. Remember though, February-exclusive crafting only unlocks after both the shops reach Tier 3.

NEW FOR 2022

Likely the biggest thing added this year is the Flamingo base; another very pretty base to add to February’s collection of such. There’s also some new decors and bases, both from crafting and from the event shops! There’s also a new February NCL marking: Snuggle! It comes with Cherry, Merlot, Noctis, Tan, Brown, and Blue! Some old markings have got a recolour too, as well as a February-exclusive version of a year-round ncl exclusive marking!

Also, a new eye colour to join the original two has been released; dove! It’s a sort of purple to pink gradient of an eye colour. It’s currently not in the wardrobe, but it sure is pretty! Though, a reminder these markings and eyes will unlock when we reach tier 3 in both shops!

MISCELLANEOUS

You may have noticed something appear at the top of your den page, something along the lines of ‘This lion has x happy thoughts, x awkward thoughts and x frivolous thoughts!’ This has absolutely no purpose, other than being something cool to show off. You get these thoughts by explore encounters, where they’re displayed at the top of your page for the world to see. Or, more so the Lioden playerbase.

Another thing you might see is people ‘buying’ heart shells in the forums. By that, they don’t exactly mean directly buying the currency (transferring event currently between unlinked accounts is impossible), instead they’re buying items from the shops worth the amount of heart shells they’ve bought from you. This is a great way to quickly sell off your items to someone almost guaranteed. However, oftentimes you’ll be selling for less than you could sell them for on your own later. It’s a great option if you’d prefer to go more simple with it, but if you want to do it yourself, that’s viable as well.

Generally, it’s best to leave a month or so gap between the end of February and selling your stock, though even more time is better. As stocks get scarer through the months, and demand doesn’t stop, you can sell things more more. Even better is being able to check the trading centre once or twice a day. When the stock lulls, there’s your time to sell.

———~ ➳ ♡ ➳~———
CONCLUSION

There you go! I’ve explained pretty much all the important parts of this event! While February is an exciting time to be on Lioden, it’s also a good time to remind you that you don’t need to be always grind it out. You don’t need to be entirely devoted to this game to enjoy this event. Take a break, play another game for a bit, go have a snack or a nap, or go do that work you’ve been neglecting. Your Lions won’t die if you don’t roll over for a day. If it’s all getting to you and you feel like you need to stop, please stop.

February also tends to cause some extra volatility within the community, especially if the unlocking of shops is slow. Just remember; whatever you do in the game shouldn’t be dictated by the slap shop or the flirt shop not opening up fast. Flirt or slap at your own will. Do whatever you want with that mechanic, there’s always going to be the few that grind it that carry us, the people without that much time.

Thanks for reading, I hope you have a wonderful February!

How does Merlot compare to Rough Ruby in terms of base outcomes? I love both but will likely be saving up for Merlot because I probably won't have enough to craft Rough Ruby.

Both are very similar, both being in the special category (which makes the chance of passing quite low) and neither being a factor in a combo base. It mostly boils down to what one you prefer! Personally, I’ve gotten a lot of rough ruby gems just through exploring, but if you don’t have the time or are just plain unlucky, I’d recommend asking in the wanted: items forum for them. Usually you can get a better deal than going through the trading centre

The flirt points are what you earn the end up going to the flirt shop to unlock it, same with slap points
