King of the Jungle, AmberFang-

Today was the day AmberFang had been waiting for his entire life, ever since he was a young cub, and heard the elders speak of Clan Okani's traditions and how the next king would be selected. Taking a breath, AmberFang took in the surroundings and closed his eyes.The sound of the wind through the grass as he watched over the clan soothed his spirit so much that he barely registered a presence behind him until a voice caused him to nearly jump out of his fur.

"I knew you'd be here, you always come here when you feel broody!" A cheerful voice popped up, Sunrisepride spoke, giggling as he turned around, a chunk of meat she had brought near her feet, "You missed dinner, I figured you would be hungry after those trials..."

The trials of Kings, where each worthy potential heir would compete to prove their worth, and King Gandervast would select the next king. The trials AmberFang had trained his whole life for, and now, the results of which would guide his life into glory, or ruin him forever...

"I'm not Brooding," AmberFang sighed as he stepped forward to eat, "I just needed to clear my head..."

"I'll be rooting for you, you know, from the sidelines... if it makes you feel better." Sunrise said her ears tilting back as she looked down shyly, causing AmberFang to stop eating and truly sit up and look at her, "I-I mean it would suck if you had to leave! Y-You're my best friend and who else would I get all my beetle facts from."

"I thought my beetle facts bored you Sunrise..." AmberFang said coyly.

"Y-Yeah well-- not all of them!" Sunrise nudged him and AmberFang nudged back, it wasn't long before they were wrestling as they did as cubs and laughing until the sound of a lioness clearing her throat broke them up. The position they were in, the position with Sunrise on her back and AmberFang above her didn't feel so innocent anymore.


"Queen General Chamette-- We were just--" Sunrise looked between AmberFang and the older lioness, Chamette's orange and tawny fur being brushed in the breeze, Sunrisepride quickly righted herself and moved a respectable distance away from the prince beside her.

"Sunrise, The evening Hunting Party is about to go on their next hunt, accompany them won't you?" Chamette said in a gentle yet stern tone.

"Yes Queen General, right away!" Sunrise replied, hurrying off to join the other lionesses, taking a moment to look back at AmberFang, the pair making eye contact, and for a moment AmberFang's heart sped up in his chest, before as quickly as Sunrise had snuck up on him, she was gone once again, leaving him and his mother alone.

"She's awfully pretty... a good huntress as well..." Chamette said as she sat down beside her son.

"Yeah..." he said in a dreamy tone before shaking his head to get himself out of his stupor, "w-wait! Mother I-- We're best friends and--"

"And is producing heir's not one of a king's many tasks?" she teased.

"We don't even know if I'm king yet... and I--" he gave a sigh, as he sat down, looking down where a Broodmother watched on as cubs played in the tall grass, "I don't know what father will say, or what he's decided... what if I'm not the heir he wants, the future king clan Okani needs..."

Queen General Chamette gave a few soft, soothing licks to her son's messy mane, and AmberFang felt like a cub again, back when his only real worry was if he wanted to chase his mother's tail or pounce on bugs for a mid-day snack.

"You are everything King of Okani needs and more, and you are my son... no matter what happens, or what your father decides, that will never change..."
